1. Zach Permann (Rockland)

It was another monster performance for the Bulldog junior - 426 rushing yards and six TDs in a win over Mackay.  He also caught six passes for 47 yards and a score while making seven tackles and intercepting a pass on defense.

2. Payton Christensen (Troy)

The junior quarterback had a game for the ages in the Trojans' wild, 58-46 win over Lapwai.  He threw for 356 yards and seven touchdowns on just 11 completions, while also rushing for 60 yards and another touchdown.

3. Jackson Rice (Oakley)

Rice helped run and pass the Hornets past Murtaugh on Friday, snapping a 15-game losing streak for the program.  Rice passed for 272 yards and three scores while running for 62 yards and two scores to give the team's playoff hopes a big boost.

MaxPreps Madness

As has long been discussed and debated, playoff positioning in the 8-man classifications is based on a mathematical formula provided by MaxPreps.  With two weeks left in the regular season, the top three 2A teams remain unchanged (Kenrick, Kamiah and Logos) while Clearwater Valley, Oakley, Butte County, and Murtaugh still have something to play for the next two weeks.  Meanwhile, in 1A, Long Pin rivals Tri-Valley and Council hold down the top two spots with a head-to-head matchup looming on October 24.  At the same time, three Whitepine rivals - Deary, Lewis County, and Timberline - are still competing for their playoff lives near the bottom of the 12-team bracket.

Go The Distance

The Challis Vikings picked up a crucial, 36-20, win over North Gem on Friday, and it was a record-setting play that helped secure the pivotal victory.  Freshman quarterback Owen Thayn connected with senior receiver Teage Erickson for the longest scoring play ever for Challis High School - a step short of 99 yards for the touchdown.  Challis (4-4, 3-0) has now won three straight games and set up a winner-take-all matchup for the Rocky Mountain Conference regular-season title against Rockland on Friday in Challis.

Quite The Show

Friday's matchup between Troy and Lapwai produced one of the most memorable two-man shows in recent years in the 8-man ranks.  True, it took more than two players to put up over 100 combined points, but two shone brighter than the rest.  We mentioned Payton Christensen above: eleven completions, 356 passing yards, seven TD tosses.  And then another 60 yards rushing with another touchdown.  But let's give our due to Lapwai star Jereese McCormack.  He rushed for 148 yards and a score and also threw for 255 yards and another three scores.  Christensen had 416 total yards and eight touchdowns, McCormack had 403 total yards and four scores.  What a game.
