IdahoSports announced this week that Sven Alskog has rejoined the team as General Manager, marking the return of a familiar face with nearly a decade of experience with the company. After spending close to 30 years in the role, Owner Paul Kingsbury will now serve as Director of Operations.

From 2013 to 2021, Alskog became a recognizable voice around the Gem State, providing play-by-play for football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and wrestling. He also produced statewide coverage including schedules, scores, brackets, written content, social media and a weekly podcast. Some of his previous roles with IdahoSports include Sports Information Director and Sales Manager.

In his new position, Alskog will develop and execute growth strategies to elevate the company while leading a team of writers, broadcasters, sales representatives and social media specialists.

“The addition of Sven to the talented team we already have here is going to have an instant impact on our coverage of high school sports,” said Kingsbury. “This has been in discussion for quite some time, but the timing was just never right. I couldn't be happier to finally have Sven, and his family, back in Idaho."

Most recently, Alskog led strategic communication efforts at Tarleton State University, one of the fastest-growing institutions in the nation and No. 1 in Texas. In his role as Director of University Communications, he guided a team of seven full-time staff members while serving as the executive level communications lead.

“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead IdahoSports into what promises to be a bright future,” said Alskog. “This is the right time to return to my roots. The passion for high school sports in Idaho is special, and I look forward to working with our team to deliver content that changes the way players, coaches and teams are promoted for years to come.”

At Tarleton State, he worked collaboratively to redesign the university’s official news page, edited the biannual magazine and served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council. His team of writers distributed over 260 press releases each year and the university’s primary social media accounts were ranked nationally for engagement. Additionally, he served as the spokesperson for local, state and national media.

Prior to his time in Stephenville, Alskog was Director of Digital Marketing and Communications at the University of Texas at El Paso. He oversaw all social accounts for UTEP athletics and was a key part of the marketing campaign to fill the Sun Bowl for the first time since 2008, selling out the 2022 football season opener against North Texas with 45,971 fans in the stands. He also created content for the largest women’s basketball social media following in Conference USA and coordinated media availability in the No. 23 media market in the United States.

His intercollegiate athletics journey started as Associate Director of Athletic Communications at The College of Idaho, where he served as the primary contact for women’s basketball, softball and women’s soccer. While at C of I, his work was recognized as among the best in the NAIA in the categories of Call of the Year, Feature Video of the Year, Season Preview/Review of the Year and Website of the Year.

While in college, he was Media Relations Director and lead voice for the Kitsap BlueJackets of the West Coast League.

Alskog is a native of Camano Island, Wash. He attended Idaho State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education with a sport management emphasis.
