Flipping The Script
In the closing seconds of the first half, the Hansen Huskies were driving for a potential touchdown against the Tri-Valley Titans that would have gotten the Huskies to within one score. But, as time was running out on the half, Titan senior Elias DeVries stepped in front of a short pass, intercepted it, and returned it almost the length of the field for a touchdown. Instead of Hansen receiving the second-half kickoff with a chance to tie or take the lead, Tri-Valley extended its lead to 42-20. Then, on the first play of the second half, Tri-Valley's Moyne Ingram intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. In consecutive plays that book-ended the halftime break, Tri-Valley completely changed the game's narrative to advance to the 1A quarterfinals this weekend.
Round 1 To The North
There were eight games in the opening round this past weekend, and five of them featured a north (District 1/2) vs. south (District 3/4/5/6) matchup. There was one north/north (1A Genesee over Timberline) and two south/south (1A Garden Valley over Challis; 1A Tri-Valley over Hansen). The other five - the north districts won four and the south districts won one. In the six games, the north teams averaged more than 56 points per game (282 total points, 56.4 per game). In the upcoming quarterfinals, every 2A game is north-versus-south, and two of the 1A games are. Wallace/Genesee (north/north) and Council/Garden Valley (south/south) in 1A are also both rematches of regular season games.
Miller Time
You've almost certainly heard the name but, just in case you haven't, Wallace's Cooper Miller is continuing to put up gaudy numbers. He's thrown 33 touchdown passes (against just one interception) and rushed for 25 scores. That's 58 touchdowns in ten games so far. And, as a reminder, he's just a sophomore. He's not doing it by himself, but he's become the headliner. Miller and his Miner teammates travel to Genesee in the quarterfinals.
