2A Stars
1. Cade Silflow (Kendrick)
The senior hauled in five passes for 159 yards and two scores as Kendrick's journey reached the state championship game for the fifth consecutive season. He also added an interception on defense, which he promptly returned for a touchdown, his third score of the contest.
2. Honour Mallory (Logos)
The senior had eight carries for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead a balanced Knights offense against Whitepine rival Kamiah. Mallory had a TD rush in the second and another in the third to help Logos pull away.
1A Stars
1. Jace Waggoner (Tri-Valley)
Waggoner rushed for 272 yards and four touchdowns, completed six passes (two for TDs), and contributed seven tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery on defense to lead the Titans to the title game next week.
2. Gabe Saili (Carey)
The senior had 111 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns on offense but, as usual, Saili's larger contribution was likely on defense, where he was credited with 16 tackles (two for loss) against the explosive Council offense.
Honorable Mention
Owen Hatfield (Council)
Carter Kimball (Grace)
Gavin Schoening (Kamiah)
Lennox Radford (Wallace)
2A Championship Preview
Kendrick (11-0) vs. Logos (9-2)
Thursday, 11/20
7 PM PT, Kibbie Dome
These two programs have dominated the 2A Whitepine the past two seasons, going a combined 22-3 in conference play the past two seasons (two of the three losses are to one another). When the met in Moscow on October 17, Logos did what no one else has been able to do against Kendrick - they controlled the line of scrimmage and the tempo of the game...for a half. After being frustrated in the opening half, the Tigers made adjustments at halftime and came back to win, 48-24, easily the closest and most competitive game Kendrick has played this season. Kendrick has outscored its opposition by an astounding 839-66 through 11 games, so Logos' task is clear - its defense, led by standout defensive linemen Peter Story and Joshua Prince, has to finish what it started in October to limit the powerful Tiger offense. If it cannot, Kendrick will win its fifth consecutive state championship.
1A Championship Preview
Carey (10-1) vs. Tri-Valley (9-2)
Saturday, 11/22
11 AM MT, Middleton High School
Luckily for Tri-Valley, it's unlikely that Carey can match the pure offensive explosiveness that Wallace displayed in the 1A semifinals. However, Carey's defense is among the better units int he state. Can the Titans' three-headed rushing monster of Jace Waggoner, (2,168 yards), Gage George (1,231 yards) and Eli Noah (1,056 yards) and their 68 combined rushing touchdowns keep the ball moving against a Panthers defense that allowed less than 20 points per game? Will Parke (137 total tackles), Gabe Saili (123 total tackles), and Stockton Sears (113 total tackles) each averaged more than ten tackles per game for Carey and Saili also had 14 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. These two programs met for the then-1A Division 2 state championship in 2017, a game won by Carey, 50-42.
