NAMPA, Idaho — The No. 2-seeded Cole Valley Christian Chargers dominated the No. 5-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 71-35 in the 4A Boys Basketball State Championship game on Saturday.

Cole Valley tallied 26 points off the bench and held the lead the entire game on its way to capturing the fourth state title in school history.

The Chargers started the contest with their offense clicking, building a 19-12 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Cole Valley took complete control in the second period, using a 13-3 run while shutting down the Badgers defensively to take a commanding 36-15 lead into halftime. The Chargers continued their dominant play in the third quarter, outscoring Bonners Ferry 22-11 to stretch the lead even further. With the game well in hand, Cole Valley cruised through the fourth quarter to secure the 71-35 victory.

Cole Valley head coach Leif Karlberg reflected on the significance of the championship.

“Yeah, it’s great for the community,” Karlberg said. “It’s our second year at the 4A level, so it’s a new conference and new scenery. We were able to build confidence off that. These guys committed to the process and knew they were capable of this result.”

Cooper Kollmann was named the IdahoSports.com Player of the Game after finishing with 21 points and four rebounds to lead the Chargers. Madden Compton added 18 points off the bench in a key performance for Cole Valley.

“I was just motivated by the drive to win,” Kollmann said. “We all really wanted to win tonight, and that’s what led to this.”

For Bonners Ferry, Peyton Hinthorn led the Badgers with 14 points and four rebounds, while Sulay Abubakari added 11 points and six rebounds.

“Losing five seniors is never easy,” Hinthorn said. “We did everything we could this year, and so did I. We just fell short today.”
