2026 Idaho High School Boys Basketball State Tournament Recaps: Day Three
In Saturday's third place and consolation games, we saw a new tournament record established and a backboard decimated by a dunk during warmups

Third Place Games


6A State Third Place Game | #2 Centennial 60, #5 Highland 53

Despite a valiant comeback bid by Highland (20-6), Centennial (22-4) held on to earn the third place trophy.

The Rams trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half, and Highland outscored Centennial in the fourth quarter, 18 to 5, before running out of time.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Tobin Knudson exploded for 28 points, nine rebounds and two steals for Centennial.

Tracen Tripple led Highland with 16 points.


5A State Third Place Game | #4 Columbia 58, #2 Preston 47

Columbia (19-8) shot 48% from the field in the second half of play to pull away from Preston (21-5) to earn their first third place trophy in school history for boys basketball.

Marcus DeLeon finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.  He scored all nine of Columbia's points in the fourth quarter and was named IdahoSports.com Player of the Game.

Easton Lott led Columbia with 15 total points, while Preston's Wayd Bailey led all scorers with 21 points.


4A State Third Place Game | #1 Teton 58, #3 Snake River 54

Despite trailing for most of the contest, Teton (22-6) slipped past Snake River (17-10) in the closing minutes to earn third place.

The game, originally scheduled to be held at Eagle High School, had to move to Rocky Mountain High after a Teton player dunked in warmups and shattered the backboard at Eagle.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Luke Nelson sank 10-of-12 free throws on his way to 16 points, preserving the win for the Timberwolves. Canon Kunz (20 points) and Oliver Lifton (14) also reached double figures for Teton.

Bridjer Howard totaled 12 points and seven rebounds for Snake River.


3A State Third Place Game | #4 Ririe 64, #6 New Plymouth 60 (OT)

Ririe (17-10) outscored New Plymouth (19-9) 16 to 12 in overtime to earn the third place trophy at the 3A state tournament.

Kody Landon finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and earned IdahoSports.com Player of the Game honors. 

New Plymouth's Cohen Evans finished one rebound shy of a double-double, and totaled 18 points, nine boards and eight blocks.


2A State Third Place Game | #3 Prairie 43, #4 North Star Charter 42

The 2A third place game was won at the three-point line, as Prairie (20-7) finished 7-of-21 from distance compared to North Star Charter's (19-5) 2-of-14 performance.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Patrick Schlader tallied a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Nate Forsmann added 14 points and eight boards.

The Huskies were paced by Logan Ellis' double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.


1A State Third Place Game | #2 Watersprings 57, #5 Carey 35

The Warriors' (24-4) defense overwhelmed Carey (16-10), forcing 16 turnovers and holding the Panthers to 28.6% from the field, 8.7% from three, and 45.5% from the free throw line.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Sean Pery finished with 14 points in the win, while Korban Nelson added 21 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Carey's Stockton Sears finished with 12 points to pace the Panthers.


Consolation Finals


6A State Consolation Final | #4 Kuna 72, #7 Capital 67

Kuna (20-7) finally pulled away from District 3 rival Capital (16-13) late, outscoring the Eagles 25 to 17 in a wild fourth quarter to earn the consolation title.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Emmanuel Chabuka finished with a double-double of 27 points and ten rebounds for Kuna.  Bridger Barrus (21 points) and Jackson Edwards (17) also reached double figures for the Kavemen.

In a losing effort, Capital's Quincey Clay set a new 6A state tournament record for points in a single game with 46.  The previous record was held by a pair of Highland Rams; Rick Cutright (1971) and Don Holston (1982) each scored 43 to establish the previous high mark.


5A State Consolation Final | #6 Twin Falls 59, #5 Vallivue 54

Twin Falls (19-7) exploded out the gates in the third quarter, turning a two point deficit into a seven point lead thanks to a 12 to three run to begin the period.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Ethan Hubsmith came off the bench to score 19 points for the Bruins, and finished 7-of-8 from the floor overall. Trey Billings also scored 19 points for Twin Falls, and added 12 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Vallivue (20-9) saw four players reach double figures in scoring; Noah Mitchell (14), Zakary Hogg (14), Victor Gutierrez (10) and Xander Wilson (10).


4A State Consolation Final | #6 Marsh Valley 57, #8 Filer 54

The Eagles (17-11) trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but outscored Filer (11-16) 23 to 15 in the fourth quarter to earn the comeback win.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Jaxson Smith led the way with 17 points and four steals for the Eagles. Nash Guthrie added a double-double of 13 points and ten rebounds, while Tate Whitworth chipped in with 11 points.

Filer's Bryker Darrington finished one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 17 points and nine boards.


3A State Consolation Final | #7 Soda Springs 58, #5 Firth 43

Soda Springs (17-8) put the clamps on Firth (16-11) defensively, holding the Cougars to just 1-of-13 from three-point distance and forcing 14 turnovers to win the consolation crown.

Cooper Thompson finished 10-of-18 from the floor on his way to 24 points and IdahoSports.com Player of the Game honors. Gavin Hansen added a double-double of 17 points and ten rebounds.

Brycen Andersen led Firth with a double-double of 19 points and 15 boards, while Wyatt Killpack (17 points, 11 rebounds) also tallied a double-double.


2A State Consolation Final | #8 Grace 53, #6 Murtaugh 51

Despite a spirited comeback effort by the Red Devils (19-8), the Grizzlies (13-14) held on to bring home a consolation trophy as the eight-seeded team at the 2A State Tournament.

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Chase Smith finished with 14 points, and iced the game at the free throw line, finishing 6-of-8 overall, and 4-of-5 in the final two minutes of play. Smith missed the final free throw on purpose.

Parker Yost led Grace with 16 total points, while Murtaugh's Broxton Widmier led all scorers with 22.


1A State Consolation Final | #6 Greenleaf Friends 51, #4 Timberline 39

Greenleaf Friends (19-9) raced out to a 16-6 lead after one quarter of play in their wire-to-wire win over Timberline (12-7).

IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Zane Fillmore led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jake Miller added 12 points, and Gavin Wilks and Brayden Perelli-Minetti each added eight in a well-rounded effort.

Timberline's Korbin Christopherson finished with a double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds.
