March 11-16
Welcome to "Heavy Hitters", where each week, we'll highlight the top hitting performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one single-game hitting performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best hitting line for that particular day.
If you'd like to nominate a Heavy Hitter, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Lucas Guray, 11, Cole Valley Christian (Monday, March 16)
In a 9-2 win over Weiser, Guray set the table well atop the Chargers' lineup, finishing 2-for-4 with three stolen bags and three runs scored. Guray gets bonus points for doing this while pitching: He went four innings and allowed no runs on just two hits with seven strikeouts to earn the win.
Clayton Allen, 12, Salmon (Tuesday, March 17)
Salmon has gotten off to a nice start this season, and senior Clayton Allen is a big reason why. In a 14-2 win over Declo, Allen went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, three steals, two runs scored, and a walk.
Ty Aggen, 11, Melba (Wednesday, March 18)
Aggen went 2-for-2 with a triple and a double as Melba raced past Glenns Ferry 19-1. He also reached base on a walk and a hit-by-pitch, and totaled four runs, four steals, and two RBIs.
Cooper Brooks, 11, Melba (Thursday, March 19)
The Mustangs' hot bats carried over to the next day in a 17-6 triumph over Weiser. This time, Brooks took the spotlight, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, five RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base.
Thomas Baumer, 12, Salmon (Friday, March 20)
The Savages blanked Idaho City 20-0 at the Challis-Mackay Wood Bat Tournament on Friday. Baumer went 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk in four trips to the plate. He socked a home run, and finished with three RBIs and four runs scored. But the most damage came on the basepaths, where the senior swiped seven bags.
Conner Thomson, 12, Preston (Saturday, March 21)
Preston earned a slug-it-out 17-12 win over Bear Lake, and in the win, Thomson finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, with two of his three hits coming via the home run. Both of the home runs were solo shots, so Thomson finished with two RBIs, but he came around to score four times thanks to drawing a walk and a hit-by-pitch. For good measure, he also stole two bases.
SOFTBALL
Paityn Nelson, 11, Wood River (Monday, March 16)
Nelson cranked two home runs as part of a 3-for-3 day overall in Wood River's 15-12 win over Buhl. Nelson also drew two walks, came around to score four times, and drove in three runs.
Savannah Johnson, 12, Hillcrest (Tuesday, March 17)
Johnson unleashed her bat in Hillcrest's 20-1 win over Canyon Ridge, finishing 4-for-4 with two home runs and a double, nine RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base.
Riley Parsons, 12, Clearwater Valley (Wednesday, March 18)
Parsons was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a triple, five RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base, as Clearwater Valley defeated Lewis County 15-4.
Keslyn Reid, 9, Blackfoot (Thursday, March 19)
Blackfoot turned back Jerome, 23-12, and the play of sparkplug freshman Keslyn Reid was a major factor in the win. Reid went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two singles, two walks, seven RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base.
Grace Chambers, 11, Skyview (Friday, March 20)
In a battle of two of Idaho's most consistent 5A softball programs in recent history, Skyview blew past Pocatello 17-1. Chambers went 3-for-3 with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Addison Cann, 11, Kimberly (Saturday, March 21)
Kimberly's junior slammed two home runs as part of a 2-for-4 day overall in the Bulldogs' 16-10 win over Timberline. Cann drove in six runs and scored three times as well.
