Welcome to "Primetime Pitchers", where each week, we'll highlight the top pitching performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one pitching performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best pitching line for that particular day.
If you'd like to nominate a Primetime Pitcher, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Cooper Brooks, 11, Melba (Monday, April 6) / William Durham, 12, St. Maries (Monday, April 6)
We rarely hand out multiple honors on the same day. After all, we're trying to identify the best pitching performance in the entire state on that given day. But these two standouts delivered identical pitching lines in their respective teams' wins:
7 innings pitched, no runs, four hits, 17 strikeouts, no walks
Even spookier? Their teams also won by identical scores: Melba defeated Nampa Christian 7-0, while St. Maries defeated Grangeville 7-0.
Nate Rolland, 10, Emmett (Tuesday, April 7)
Rolland tossed a five inning no-hitter in a 10-0 blanking of Caldwell. One walk was the only blemish on the day, as the sophomore finished with eight strikeouts.
Andre Weathers, 10, Rocky Mountain (Wednesday, April 8)
Weathers pitched a complete game shutout against Timberline in a 15-0 triumph. In five innings, Weathers allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out nine batters.
Michael Scalzo, 9, Potlatch (Thursday, April 9)
Scalzo pitched a complete game, seven inning, two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks. That's impressive. Then consider the fact that Scalzo is only a freshman. Doubly impressive. Then consider the fact that Potlatch needed every last out from their freshman hurler in a game they only won by a final of 1-0 over Clearwater Valley. Ultimate amount of impressiveness.
Quinton Naranjo, 12, Orofino (Friday, April 10)
Naranjo pitched a five inning no-hitter as Orofino defeated Priest River 12-0. Naranjo walked four batters during the no-no while striking out seven Spartans.
John Seubert, 9, Prairie (Saturday, April 11)
Seubert threw a five inning no-hitter for the Pirates in their 13-0 victory over Notus. The freshman struck out nine while walking four.
SOFTBALL
Savannah Stevens, 9, Coeur d'Alene (Monday, April 6)
Coeur d'Alene's freshman phenom threw her second no-hitter of the season in a four-inning affair against Moscow, a game that the Vikings won 15-0. Stevens yielded one walk on the day, and 11 of the 12 outs she recorded came via strikeout.
Peyton Bargen, 12, Eagle (Tuesday, April 7)
Bargen pitched a five inning no-hitter in Eagle's 10-0 win over Kuna. Bargen walked two batters while also striking out two.
Gracie Longhurst, 11, Bonneville (Wednesday, April 8)
Longhurst went the distance in Bonneville's 7-3 victory against Skyline, pitching all seven innings. The junior allowed three runs (only one earned) on just two hits while striking out 17 and walking three.
Avery Blair, 10, Mountain Home (Thursday, April 9)
Blair pitched a seven inning one-hitter in the Tigers' 5-0 win over Minico. The sophomore struck out 16 and walked only two.
Nyomi Nordsieck, 12, Mountain View (Friday, April 10)
Nordsieck pitched a complete game shutout in the Mavericks' 10-0 blanking of Ridgevue. She allowed just one hit and two walks, while striking out six batters in six innings of work.
Peyton Shook, 11, Nampa Christian and Quenna Hartley, 9, Nampa Christian (Saturday, April 11)
This duo combined for a five inning no-hitter as Nampa Christian turned back Prairie 12-0. Shook took the ball first and delivered three innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Hartley followed with two innings of five strikeout, two walk ball.
