1. Payton Christensen, Troy
The senior quarterback was a threat with his arm and his legs in the Trojans’ win on Friday over Lapwai; he threw for over 100 yards and three scores while running for 77 yards and two more touchdowns in an exciting 42-36 victory.
2. Will Mavencamp, Hagerman
The first-year starter is starting to find his way as the quarterback for the Pirates. In Friday’s win over Valley, Mavencamp passed for 160 yards and three touchdowns while adding 75 yards rushing and another score for Hagerman.
3. Miles Fortine, Kendrick
The sophomore defensive back made his first varsity start for the powerhouse Tigers on Friday, and he returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns (a 65-yarder in the 2nd quarter and a 99-yarder in the 4th quarter) to help Kendrick upend Notus.

Busy Friday
Sho-Ban junior defensive end Terran Goodrider had a big responsibility when the Chiefs took on the North Gem Cowboys. He and J.J. Whiteman were tasked with containing North Gem's powerful ground attack, and the duo did an admirable job despite the team’s loss. And he did it just hours after a top-15 finish in his race at the Tiger Grizz cross-country invitational meet. Goodrider is one of three Sho-Ban student-athletes competing in both sports (sophomore Mariano Fasthorse and junior Kale Loneman are the other two); head football coach Adam Reed says he’s mindful of the extra obligations and respectful of their desire to compete in both sports.
Reinforcements On The Way
The Challis Vikings dressed just ten players on Friday against a very good Rockland Bulldogs team – a dangerously short bench for an 8-man team. However, better days may be on the horizon for Challis. The two schools played a junior-high game before the high school game, and Challis had over 20 players on its roster for that game, including a strong group of 8th graders who will be able to strengthen the high school program next fall. Small-school coaches routinely keep an eye on the community’s youth program so they know what’s coming, and for Vikings head coach Les Webb, the number of participants is a welcome sight.
Leading The Charge
Butte County rushed for 468 yards on just 18 carries in the team’s win on Friday over Glenns Ferry – a whopping 26 yards per carry. While the runners usually garner the spotlight for such a feat, let’s take a moment to recognize the blockers who led the way – linemen Brendan Braga, Taine Hollist, Garrett Waymire, and Brodie Reynolds, all seniors, along with senior Randy Anderson and junior Tripp Bowhay at tight end. The Pirate blockers' incredible performance led to a big day for the Pirate runners.
