Welcome to "Quick Kicks", a weekly snapshot at what's happening across the boys and girls soccer landscape. Enjoy!
BOYS SOCCER
- Mountain View responded well after last week’s draw to Eagle with a win against third-ranked Boise, 1-0. Boise will look to respond Thursday night as they take on Timberline. Top five teams Owyhee and Borah went to a draw last night, with Owyhee leading Borah in the standings. Rocky Mountain has the chance to be the biggest riser in the standings before postseason play as they face Owyhee and Borah to close the regular season.
- At the 5A level, Sandpoint took top-ranked 6A squad Coeur d’Alene to a draw last week, which had to be a confidence boost for them. Wood River defeated Jerome 1-0 and jumped them in the standings. The Wolverines will close out their season next week against 4A’s top-ranked team, Teton. Jerome, Caldwell, and Idaho Falls all sit at one loss as we get down to the final stretch of the season.
- In 4A soccer, Sugar-Salem won an important match over Wendell, 2-0. Top six teams Fruitland and Ambrose played to a draw. Teton has a big match with Wood River on October 3. Sugar-Salem will then host Teton in a battle of top teams in the regular season finale.
GIRLS SOCCER
- Owyhee and Rocky Mountain battled it out Wednesday night. Owyhee earned the 2-0 win, and with little margin separating the top five teams in District 3, Owyhee currently slots in as the #2 seed come postseason time. #1 Timberline will play #5 Middleton as the Wolves look to finish their season undefeated. Timberline is currently ranked number 20 nationally according to Maxpreps rankings.
- The standings look mostly set for 5A girls soccer. Hillcrest defeated Skyline and Pocatello in the past week, and Twin Falls looks like another top team in 5A. The top eight teams will eventually make the playoffs, so Sandpoint will need to win their final regular season game against Lewiston to ensure they have positive momentum heading into the postseason.
- The 4A standings are similarly locked in as we wind down the regular season. Sugar-Salem and Fruitland are #1 and #2, respectively, in the Maxpreps rankings, but the battles for playoff spots loom as we move down the rankings. Teton plays Snake River in an important match that gives them a chance to improve their standing in the MaxPreps rankings. Sun Valley Community School and Kimberly play in their final match of the season that could determine postseason seeding for each team.
