BOYS SOCCER
The 6A High Country Conference saw Thunder Ridge upset Highland for the auto bid to state. Highland will have their opportunity to advance now in a state play-in game.
A big surprise in 6A came from 7th-seeded Timberline in the Southern Idaho Conference. They made it all the way to the district championship before falling to top-seeded Mountain View. Despite the loss, Timberline is moving on to state as the District 3 runner-up. Boise and Rocky Mountain also punched their tickets to state after winning their play-in matchups.
Top overall seed Wood River won the 5A Great Basin Conference and the defending state champs now move on to state. Jerome came in second and solidified a play-in game slot. In east Idaho, the Idaho Falls Tigers won the High Country Conference while Century solidified the runner-up spot.
Coeur d’Alene Charter emerged from the 4A Intermountain League as district champions, while runner-up Bonners Ferry punched their ticket to the state play-in round.
Teton won the Mountain Rivers Conference, and American Falls upset Preston in the South East Idaho Conference. Sun Valley Community School won the High Desert Conference, and McCall-Donnelly upset Fruitland in the Snake River Valley Conference for an auto bid to state. Fruitland will now play in a play-in game for a spot at state.
GIRLS SOCCER
We all know how dominant Timberline has been atop the 6A ranks, but they ran into some tough competition in the District 3 Tournament. Timberline won their second match of the tournament on penalty kicks against Middleton and then fell in the District Championship on PK’s against Owyhee. But at last, Owyhee and Timberline will both be heading to state.
Highland won the High Country Conference, and Madison heads to the state play-in after defeating Rigby for second place in District 5-6. Up north, Lake City defeated Coeur d’Alene for a bid to the state tournament as well.
Hillcrest won the 5A High Country Conference, while Skyline came in second, with both clinching bids to state. Twin Falls defeated Wood River in the Great Basin Conference and clinched their bid to state.
Kimberly took care of Wendell and punched their ticket to state from District 4’s High Desert Conference. Marsh Valley won the South East Idaho Conference, and Preston is the runner-up from District 5. Sugar-Salem defeated Teton for the Mountain Rivers Conference Title.
Play-in games for state start October 17, so tune back in next week as we get a better idea of who clinched the remaining spots. Here’s the full list of teams that have clinched their spot at state, as well as a schedule of play-in matches this Saturday.
