WEST SIDE 47, GRANGEVILLE 42:  The West Side Pirates came up big in the fourth quarter, making enough plays to defeat the Grangeville Bulldogs, 47-42, in an entertaining 2A quarterfinal game at Kuna High School on Thursday.

Senior Abbie Povey led the way for West Side with 15 points, 18 rebounds and two blocked shots before fouling out.  The Pirates also got 17 points from Mattie Creager.

Grangeville got 15 points from Hailey Sullivan, but she needed 19 shots to get to that mark.  She also had six rebounds and five steals for the Bulldogs, who also got 11 points and four assists from McKenzie Kennedy.

West Side forced Grangeville into 20 gurnovers, leading to 18 points for the Pirates.

West Side will face West Jefferson in a 2A state semifinal matchup Friday at 6:00 at Kuna High School.  Grangeville will face Cole Valley Christian in the consolation round at 1:15.

WEST JEFFERSON 42, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 25:  The Panthers defense held the Chargers to just 12 field goals in the entire game, riding a fast start to the win in the 2A quarterfinals Thursday afternoon.

West Jefferson out-scored Cole Valley Christian, 15-4, in the first quarter to assume control.  The lead extended to 26-10 at halftime and the Panthers were never seriously challenged after intermission.

Kaylee Nickerson had 17 points and four steals to lead the way for West Jefferson, who also got nine points from Jade Skidmore and eight from Amber Brown.  The Chargers were led by the eight points of Holly Golenor but the team shot just 27 percent from the floor.

The Panthers take on West Side in a 2A semifinal on Friday.

NEW PLYMOUTH 55, WENDELL 49:  The Pilgrims prevailed following a frantic fourth quarter which saw the two teams combine for 40 points.

New Plymouth put three scorers in double figures - Courtney Butler (15), Josie Thurman (12) and Kenzie White (10) in a feast-or-famine game for the Pilgrims offense.  The team scored seven points in the first quarter, followed by 20 in the second, five in the third and then 23 in the fourth.

Senior Lupita Vargas had a game-high 24 points and six rebounds for Wendell, which could not overcome 23 turnovers as a team in the game.

Wendell was whistled for 31 personal fouls, which led to 44 free throw attempts for the Pilgrims.  New Plymouth cashed in on 23 of those charity tosses, while Wendell was 17/21.

New Plymouth advances to the 2A semifinals to face Soda Springs, while Wendell will play Ririe at 3:00 at Kuna High School.

SODA SPRINGS 53, RIRIE 41:  The Cardinals forced Ririe into 26 total turnovers, which led directly to 22 points for Soda Springs in the 12-point victory.

After seeing the lead change hands seven times through the first three quarters, Soda Springs was able to keep Ririe at bay with a 21-point fourth quarter.  Reagan Yaamauchi (18) and Callie Gronning (15) led the way offensively for Soda Springs, while Savanna Gamett paced Ririe offensively with 12 points before fouling out.

Both teams were exceptional from the charity stripe, with Soda Springs connecting on 21 of 24 free throws and Ririe sinking 13 of 16.

The Cardinals will meet New Plymouth at 8:00 Friday night in a 2A state semifinal matchup.  Ririe will take on Wendell in the consolation bracket.
