Welcome to "Heavy Hitters", where each week, we'll highlight the top hitting performances across baseball and softball diamonds around the state of Idaho.
We will select one single-game hitting performance for each day of the week. Think of it as the best hitting line for that particular day.
If you'd like to nominate a Heavy Hitter, send an email to brandon@idahosports.com.
Without further ado, let's get to it!
BASEBALL
Barak Meyer, 12, Clearwater Valley (Monday, April 6)
Meyer rapped three hits in three trips to the plate, including a home run, as Clearwater Valley defeated Kellogg 17-4. Meyer's 3-for-3 night included a walk, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.
Bam Fenter, 12, Coeur d'Alene (Tuesday, April 7)
In Coeur d'Alene's 24-8 win over Post Falls, Fenter went 5-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, and a single. The senior finished with ten RBIs and two runs scored.
Jace Irwin, 12, North Star Charter (Wednesday, April 8)
Irwin went a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run and a double in the Huskies' 19-9 win over Idaho City. Irwin added four RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases.
Gavin Webb, 12, Bonneville (Thursday, April 9)
Webb came this close to hitting for the cycle in the Bees' 15-3 win over Idaho Falls. Unfortunately, Webb failed to log a single, and finished 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and a home run. In his fourth at-bat, Webb drew a walk. The senior also finished with five RBIs and three runs scored.
Easton Green, 11, Malad (Friday, April 10)
Green's blazing speed created all sorts of problems on the base paths during Malad's 14-4 victory over Wells (Nevada). Green finished 1-for-1 officially, but he also drew two walks, and earned two hit-by-pitches. Green also stole five bases and scored three runs.
Krew Prince, 9, Wendell (Saturday, April 11)
Prince was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored as Wendell defeated Grangeville 18-1. Most impressive, though, is that three of Prince's four hits were triples.
SOFTBALL
Lauren Colson, 11, Cole Valley Christian (Monday, April 6)
Colson finished a perfect 4-for-4 in the Chargers' 21-6 win over Homedale, but we're burying the lead here. Three of Colson's four hits were home runs, while the fourth was a double. It added up to seven RBIs and four runs scored.
Keslyn Reid, 9, Blackfoot (Tuesday, April 7)
In Blackfoot's 17-7 victory over Shelley, Reid finished 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBIs, three runs scored, and a steal.
Natalya Hoobery, 11, Weiser (Wednesday, April 8)
Hoobery became the second player with a three-homer game this week in the Wolverines' 24-3 win against McCall-Donnelly. Hoobery finished 4-for-5 with three homers and a double, along with nine RBIs and four runs scored.
Brielynn Jones, 10, Timberlake (Thursday, April 9)
The sophomore slammed two home runs as part of a 3-for-4 day in Timberlake's 19-0 shutout of Reardan (Washington). Jones also tallied seven RBIs, two runs scored, and reached base a fourth time on a hit-by-pitch.
Caryss Barger, 12, Grangeville (Friday, April 10)
Barger finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and a triple as Grangeville moved past Idaho City 19-11. The senior also drew a walk and finished with five RBIs and three runs scored.
Taylor Gunderson, 12, West Side (Saturday, April 11)
Gunderson was busy early and often in the Pirates' 27-7 dispatching of Notus. The senior went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, two RBIs, and five runs scored. But where Gunderson truly shined was in the stolen base department, as she finished with eight steals.
