This week, Keeping Up with the Kill is going to check in on some of Idaho's best players that are excelling at Idaho colleges!
Addie Evans of Pocatello is doing amazing things with Bushnell University in Oregon. She has had a couple of big weeks in a row! She is a major contributor on the right side in blocks. In the past two weeks, the Beacons have defeated two NAIA Top 25 teams. Firstly, they defeated No. 12 College of Idaho, and then, No. 25 Southern Oregon University. Although they fell to Oregon Tech on Saturday in a tight fifth match, 15-13, it's been an incredible run for Bushnell. The Beacs have another big weekend coming up with another Top 25 matchup against No. 17 Lewis and Clark State College. Additionally, they will face Walla Walla, which received votes in this week's poll. Bushnell is definitely coming on strong ahead of conference play!
At the junior college level, 13th ranked College of Southern Idaho has several key players from the state of Idaho, and a few of them are Magic Valley standouts! Here are the local players that are proud CSI Golden Eagles:
Emerson Heatwole, Kimberly - She's been in the starting lineup all season as a DS
Ashlee Stanger, Murtaugh - Another player that's been in the starting lineup all season
Tavie Rogers, Butte County - We had high hopes for Tavie this season. She came in ready to play and then had to undergo hand surgery during the preseason. She has been cleared to play now and we are looking forward to her return to the lineup this week. We can't wait to see what happens!
Reese Hills, Filer - She hasn't played in any matches yet but she is still recovering from knee surgery over the summer.
CSI head coach Andria Harshman had this to say: "Ashlee and Emerson have brought a lot to our team's success this season and we are looking forward to watching how they help lead this team through conference play."
Finally, let's move on to Idaho State University in Pocatello. The Bengals are celebrating their first Big Sky Conference win of the season over Idaho.
Abby McClain from Canyon Ridge had a career night, ending the match with 22 kills, a hitting percentage of .333 and breaking the record of the team's highest single-match total of the season.
Redshirt freshman outside hitter Annelie Wilson of Horseshoe Bend added a career-best nine kills on the night.
Setter Nora Waddoups, the freshman from Madison High in Rexburg, played strong as well, with 39 assists, nine digs and five kills.
Overall, there are lots of Idaho natives playing college ball and there's still lots of high school action to come as we finish out district play!
