As a team, what are your offensive strengths? We have some good talent at the skill positions with Jorgensen at QB, Simonson at RB and Kendall at WR. We have some talented, but inexperienced (at the varsity level), kids on the line in Hayden Painter and Jaron Pitcher. We should have a very well balanced offense.
Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year: We need to make quicker decisions in the passing game and not second-guess ourselves. We also need to be more physical up front in both our run and pass blocking.
As a team, what are your defensive strengths? We have an athletic bunch of kids that just need a good camp and plenty of reps in order to solidify our defense. Chaysen Ostler made some big plays for us last year as did Jorgensen, Simonson and Kendall.
Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year: We need to recognize and react to plays quicker than last year and be more physical up front. We also need to fundamentally improve in our tackling.
Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season? “Won’t Back Down”
What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team? The so-far unrealized potential we have.
For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule? We are in a 3 team conference for the first time this year so getting out of the gate in our conference opener will be critical to success. Thus, our September 19th game vs Challis is must-see.
What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team? Having guys step up and do their job and not worrying about making mistakes.
If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be? I would like for us to be able to return PAT’s for 2 points like they can in college. I think it would add a handful of exciting plays to the season, especially at the 8-man level.
Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football? In order to do my part to make sure that these boys grow up into law abiding, respectful, responsible and productive men who take pride in doing things that are hard and don’t settle for less than their absolute best.
What makes your school the best place to coach for? The players, fans, administration and facilities.
