Personal Bio:
I am a senior at American Falls High School and will graduate as Valedictorian of my class. Throughout high school I have been very involved in Student Council, FFA, and basketball. I served as the Student Body President this past year, the Student Body Vice President my junior year, the East Magic Valley District FFA President, and my basketball team’s co-captain. I have been a starter on the American Falls Girls’ Basketball Varsity team for three years and played in the District 5 All-Star game. I also organized and directed a summer basketball tournament, was an assistant coach for a girls’ basketball travel team, and planned a basketball fundamental camp for young girls in our community.

Outside of school I enjoy writing, farming, and dancing. After high school I plan to attend Idaho State University and double major in Finance and Sports Management.

Favorite high school memory, so far?:
My favorite high school memory was playing in the District Championship game this year. My team was stoked as we got off the bus and headed into the gym, preparing for an intense game. After we listened to our coach pump us up in the locker room, we headed out onto the court and were met with the sight of a packed gym. Businesses, teachers, students, families and friends, all from our small home town, came out to support us and during the game the gym was so loud that we could hardly hear our coach yelling from the sidelines. The energy was unbelievable! The game itself was highly intense and my team had to depend on each other like never before. We were very close throughout the season, but we learned what it meant to be a true family that night. Win or lose, nothing could break the bonds of our team. That game could not beat any of the memories I’ve made in high school.

What is something most people do not know about you? :
What most people don’t know about me is that I am a dancer and have been for the past 12 years. I was a tomboy growing up and played football and basketball with the boys at school. I was the kid who couldn’t wait to get grass stains on my knees from diving into the “end zone”. Few people ever saw the dancer side of me and if they did happen to see me at a performance, they were extremely surprised. Little did they know that the tough little girl who played football would develop a passion for dance and continue taking ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and pointe until she graduated from high school.

Any thoughts on where you want to go to college? Any offers yet?:
I plan to attend Idaho State University and double major in Finance and Sports Management. I was given offers to play basketball at some smaller colleges, but unfortunately had to decline such offers due to a substantial academic scholarship that has been awarded to me at ISU.

When you "grow up" what is your idea of the perfect job?:
My idea of a perfect job includes farming and coaching basketball. I have grown up working on my family farm and plan to continue doing so as one of the farm managers. The farm has helped me develop a hard work ethic, a passion for agriculture, and has also taught me many valuable life lessons. I want to give back to the farm because it has molded me into a driven, ambitious person who works to extremely hard to achieve desired results. Basketball has also been a passion of mine. I want to impact, teach, and share with kids my love of the game in hopes that they will develop the same passion. I intend to motivate my players and train them correctly in order to pull as much potential out of them as possible. Being both a farmer and basketball coach are jobs I plan to do in the future.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?:
A coach from an NBC basketball camp told me that confidence comes from knowing you put in the right amount of preparation to achieve the goals you set.

What advice can you give the kids coming up on how to get the most out of their high school careers?:
The best advice that I can give to kids entering high school is to not be afraid to take risks. There is a certain amount of risk in everything whether it’s trying out for a sports team, attending school activities, or deciding to sign up for the upper level class with the harder teacher. If kids don’t exercise taking those small risks, they will never leave their comfort zones and always wonder “what if?” It takes courage to do things that are different and seem difficult, but the end rewards are far worth the obstacles we stumble through to attain them. Trying out for that sports team may increase self-confidence, build responsibility, and help develop work ethics, let alone create unforgettable memories due to the chemistry within the team. Attending school activities will allow the opportunities to meet new people and try new things while taking the hard class will challenge students academically and better prepare them for rigorous college classes. One will never know the amount of potential they have until they are willing to push themselves beyond their self-made limits. In order to do that, kids must overcome their fears and take risks.

Your thoughts on being selected as one of the inaugural IdahoSports.com Student-Athletes of the Year?:
I am extremely thankful to have been selected as one of the IdahoSports.com Student-Athletes of the Year! It is an honor to be recognized as a recipient and represent athletes across Idaho who succeed in both in academics and athletics. When I discovered the outcome I was very, very surprised. My high school’s athletic director called once he found out I was selected and I responded in disbelief with, “What? Are you serious?” I was pretty excited once I got over that moment of shock.

Nominated by Nathan Whittle, Vice-Principal/AD at American Falls HS:
" In my 14 years in education, I have never come across a student-athlete who was as driven in academics, leadership, community service, and athletics as Lindsey Woodworth. The only thing I regret about having to write my final thoughts about her is that I don’t possess the writing skills to convey eloquently enough how deserving this girl is for this award. Nor do I believe there is anything that I could write that would adequately describe how deserving she is for this honor.

As you read through this application, it is clear that she has gone beyond the game, while still achieving at such a high level both on and off the court. Lindsey has taken on every upper level class we have offered and has a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.3443. Her simple GPA is a 4.0 and she is ranked #1 in her graduating class.

All of the data you see on paper doesn’t even describe how she is as a person. She is popular with all her peers because she is kind and considerate of all those around her. She is someone that any organization could put their trust in to accomplish any task, and never worry about their reputation because she will represent them and work with pride and integrity. I can’t imagine another student-athlete having gone beyond the game more than Lindsey Woodworth. "
