The Burley Bobcats have become a staple at the 4A state tournament, perennially hanging within the top two or three teams out of district four.

In the new season the squad will be looking to return to state for the third season in a row after winning their opening game over Bishop Kelly last time around prior to falling in the next two contests.

Head Coach Jack Bagley enters his 13th season on the sideline in Burley trying to get his group back to the level it was at for state championships in 2007 and 2008.

To do so the coach will be relying on an undersized team that will try to compensate in other ways.

Bagley pointed out that his team will have good quickness to go along with good shooters.

Plenty of depth will also be on display, something which should help the Bobcats as the season goes on.

Roy Del Bosque, Brenan Page and Cole Gibbons all return and will be asked to help lead the team back to the state tournament this season.

A strong group of incoming players will also receive playing time in important roles for Bagley.

Mario Del Bosque, Jesse Cantu, Mckinley Quast and Britton Garrard were all mentioned by their coach as key newcomers for Burley.

While his team may lack the height of some other teams throughout the state, another way of looking at it for Bagley is that his squad has more shooters and speed to go with them than those squads.

The Bobcats consistently put up points last season and the productivity should be even better this time around.

In an attempt to eliminate the need to play in the half-court as much as other teams may want to, Burley will look to be aggressive on the defensive end, while pushing the tempo heading back the other way.

Transition offense will be of the utmost importance as the unit will have to convert opportunities in the open floor to offset the lack of height. With plenty of experience returning Burley should be able to execute much like the team has in previous years.

The Bobcats struggled to stay close with Twin Falls last season, with the Bruins eventually going on to become state champions.

Burley will be hoping to utilize their up-tempo style and rejuvenated backcourt to become more competitive with the defending state champions in the new season.
