Team Preview

Written by: Sven Alskog

After going 3-17 last season it can only go uphill for Head Coach Brad Twiss and his Hansen Huskies.

Many teams undergo roster turnover each year, however it will be a completely new look for Hansen this time around as they return nobody with full-time varsity experience from their previous team.

In each of the last three seasons the Huskies have won three games.

The task to improve upon those results will be one left up to a completely revamped roster full of players experiencing varsity action for the first time.

In the early portion of the season Twiss will be searching for team leaders and players who are able to execute the style of play he wants to run on both sides of the floor.

Rebuilding the program will be something that starts on the defensive end of things, with Twiss describing what fans can expect to see from his team as a “defensive focus” on the floor.

While there will be a heavy emphasis on stopping the opposition when they have the ball, the Huskies will need to find an offensive spark after struggling in that regard last season.

Last season Hansen put up over 40 points on just four occasions, resulting in some lopsided contests, especially in the latter half of the year.

It will be a daunting task for the squad going against what is an outstanding 1AD2 North Side Conference. The league is led by the defending state champion Dietrich Blue Devils and the upstart Lighthouse Christian Lions. Glenns Ferry and Richfield should also be primed to have solid campaigns this time out.

Gaining confidence with some wins in the early portion of the schedule will be critical for the Huskies to give them a new mindset to go along with the new team.

While it will be difficult to compete with the upper echelon of teams in the conference, the Huskies hope to battle on a nightly basis.

“We will work hard for the entire 32 minutes,” stated Twiss.

The coach also expressed that his team will need to make plenty of hustle plays to help make things easier in the transition year.

With little tangible results to base expectations on, the Huskies will look to build an identity in the early part of their schedule, preparing themselves for what is sure to be a challenging conference slate following.
