Team Preview

Darrin May has been around the Clark County basketball program for over 10 years.

He has seen ups and downs within the program at the small 1A Div-II school in Dubois. But knowing both ends of the spectrum, May understands that expectations are only how you define them.

"We lost three seniors with a lot of game experience to graduation from last year," May said. "We want to develop the program and teach the game to the kids."

May did use the 'R' word, 'Rebuilding', when speaking of his team, but said that it can be a good thing for program overall.

"With five incoming freshman that are expected make an impact on our team, we need to teach them the game," he said. "We want these younger players to progress during their first season of varsity basketball."

One of the five freshman that May mentioned was Morgan Laird.

"She has a lot of potential to play after high school," May said. "I believe she can fulfill her goal of playing college ball."

The Bobcats return four players from last years squad that went 6-13 overall. 5'11 senior post Mariah Farr will be looked to for leadership and scoring underneath. Senior guard Karina Gonzalez and sophomore guard Paige Shenton will provide stability in the backcourt, while sophomore Brandi Stone will team up with Farr underneath to clog the middle for opposing offenses.

May talked about his keys to the season regarding success on the court.

"Full court defense is one, along with ball control and rebounding on offense."

In the competitive Rocky Mountain Conference, those three keys will certainly play a factor in determining how far Clark County goes this season.
