As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
We always hang our hat on Power Football. With Josh Finley (coming off of a 2400 all purpose yard and 20 TD season) being one of the top players in the state regardless of classification we will ride him and 6’2” 230 lb senior RB Wade Gazafy in the running game. With QB Wyatt Williams being a Junior now, he should be able to increase off of a 1400 passing yard and 850 rushing yard and 23 combined TD dynamic first year season and hopefully help us grow in the passing and play action game. 3 year starting Center Landunn Koyle is the lynch pin of a strong OL.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Play action. We were learning a new no huddle system and in year two should be able to master some of the timing and next level phases of the multi-tempo no huddle

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
Our defense should be pretty stout. The strength is the LB and Safety corp. Josh Finley, Landunn Koyle, Derek Higson, Kris Scott and Jed Pierson bring a great physical presence to our team in the base 4-2-5. Incoming CB Clancy Cockerham is long at 6’2 and athletic and has been the defensive MVP of our summer for sure. He is a lockdown corner that what missed last year. Returning from a 1 year absence from football in the middle of the DL is Koy Tsetsakis, a 6’4” 265 lb. senior.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Pass Coverage. We really controlled the run game of everyone we played, but gave up too many big plays on the edge that cost us.

Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season?
We for the last 3 years we have been known by the motto and by the community as “The Band of Brothers”.

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
I am excited to see some young talent prove themselves on the field. A few of the young guys have worked really hard, and could have special seasons ahead.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
A massively improved Wendell team in our cross county rivalry game week 2, but the biggest two games will be vs. Grangeville @ Eagle high school week 7; that game last year went down to the last play at the final horn, and @ Buhl week 8 which could be the conference championship game.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
The young guys have to step up. We have strong senior group, but need the juniors to come in and make an impact.

If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be?
Make all cut blocking illegal, regardless of where it happens, how many steps you take, or the angle you cut from. Dangerous play for the legs of 15-17 year old boys.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football?
? I have never wanted to do anything else! Ever! Both of my grandfathers (Devon Andersen and Florin Hulse) were famous District 4 State Championship coaches and ever since I was little I wanted to follow in their footprints.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
The kids! Gooding is known for hard nose, farm tough, no excuse kids, and that makes your job as a football coach easy for our brand of football.
