As a team, what are your offensive strengths? Good strength and size on the O-line; excellent play at running back, depth at runningback. Multiple formation offense, run the ball down hill. Tyus Zimmerman is a potential all-conference, state RB, and we have a solid line with our center Allen Attao, and guard Kaden Stewart. We also have returner Manasse Mulner.
As a team, what are your defensive strengths? An experienced linebacker corp—all returners. Paul Michael and Zach Wagner are tremendous inside with good play and speed on the outside with Kyler Segale and Reno Moss. One of the conferences best DB’s in Payton Wilner.
Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year: We need to score more on offense and be more consistent on defense. Defensively we need to reduce the number of big plays we give up. We need to create more turnovers and sudden change of possession scoring opportunities.
Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season? We personify team as our spokesperson and our motto is “I forgot what it’s like to be an individual.” Our team understands this is the only way they can improve on last year’s success.
What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team? How hard they have worked and how excited they are to play the game. It gives me motivation to go out and work with them everyday.
For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule? Capital—they haven’t lost to another Boise city team in over a decade. It’s fun to play a team that consistently plays at that level.
What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team? Maintain health and excitement. Everything is going to have to be fast paced and fun.
If you could change one rule in high school football, what would it be? Instantaneous and enthusiastic stoppage of play when someone loses a helmet.
Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school football? 120 kids I get to work with and for. They are now the sole reason I coach this game. Hopefully, we can make some type of difference.
What makes your school the best place to coach for? My assistant coaches, colleagues, and players. Our staff is truly supportive of our students and all of their endeavors.
