For the 2015-16 season, the stakes are high for the Homedale boys basketball team. It has experience aplenty, as well as familiarity and chemistry. After a 12-11 season last time out, the Trojans hope there are special things in store this winter – and they’ve got every reason to think it might happen.

Homedale boasts 10 (TEN!) seniors, including all-conference forward Connor Carter, who should lead a balanced offensive attack. Joining him are forwards Garrett Carter, Benny Schamber and Josh Tolmie, as well as guard Lawsen Matteson. One of Homedale’s best assets is its balance. Carter may marginally be the team’s leading scorer, but team unselfishness and the ability to run the floor should lead to plenty of opportunities for everyone.

Equal scoring distribution is something that’s expected to come as this group grows together – that makes it tougher for opposition because nobody knows which Trojans player will rise up that night. Defensively, the players can be largely interchangeable, each able to guard multiple positions and sharing a similar size and athletic ability.

Post defense has been a point of emphasis in the offseason, to augment speed and quickness with good post play. Experience won’t be an issue for Homedale, and that savvy should translate to plenty of effort and grit, as well as leadership. This group has played mostly together for a long time and has high hopes for 2015-16.

Those things are things that will be key in a brutal Snake River Valley Conference that saw the script flipped in the district tournament last year. Homedale will be on guard to avoid against that and make the most of its senior-laden squad.
