When it was decided that Ridgevue High School would open in the Treasure Valley, it meant that some high schools would lose some students.

That high school was Vallivue High School, as it created enough enrollment for Ridgevue to be able to compete in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference, the same conference as Vallivue.

The Warhawks will be led by head coach Neil Stutzman, who spent six seasons with Weiser and three seasons with Vallivue.

As is the case with any new school, there is a lack of reputation. It will be up to the inaugural team to set what that reputation will be. Everything this season will be a first.

The Warhawks will be led by seniors Connor Jenson at guard, and post Ammon Mafau, who both have spent the last three seasons with a different program.

Junior guards Kendrick Caldwell and Colby Brown will join Jenson in the backcourt, while fellow juniors Trevor Steelsmith will man the post. Sophomore guard Brook Childers will be the only underclassman that is expected to see substantial minutes at the varsity level, which will run the Princeton offense that has a four-out, one-in look to it.

The Warhawks acquired most of their players from a lengthy Vallivue team that clocked a 11-13 record.

Because so many players have transferred form Vallivue, the date with the Falcons cannot come soon enough for the Warhawks. The two will get together twice this season, once at each venue – Jan. 11 at Ridgevue and Feb. 3 at Vallivue.

The height and length should disrupt opposing offenses as the Warhawks have been thrown into the fire that is known as the Southern Idaho Conference.

With teams like 4A powerhouse Bishop Kelley, the Warhawks will have to be ready to compete on day one if that want to stay competitive in the conference.
