ORDER GAME PHOTOS

Friday night brought a fairly light schedule in terms of girls district tournament action, but the results were impactful.

Up north, top-seeded Coeur d'Alene and second-seeded Lake City easily moved into the 5A District 1-2 championship with runaway wins over Lewiston (70 to 34) and Post Falls (66 to 49), respectively.  The championship will be played on Tuesday, February 7th.  Post Falls will host Lewiston in a loser-out game the same night.

At the 1AD2 District 2 Tournament, fourth-seeded St. John Bosco defeated fifth-seeded Highland 33-17.  In an odd quirk, the Patriots have been without a home gym all season, so despite being the higher seed, St. John Bosco had to travel to Craigmont for the contest.  The Patriots now move into the four-team, double elimination bracket.  Their first challenge comes against top-seeded Kendrick on Monday, February 6th.

The biggest story of the night, though, came at the 4A District 4 Tournament.  Top-seeded Minico breezed past fourth-seeded Mountain Home 65-43 to advance to the district title game.  In the other semifinal, third-seeded Jerome went to second-seeded Twin Falls and knocked off the Bruins, 40-38.

The Tigers won the game with strong defense.  Trailing 37-36 midway through the fourth quarter, Jerome's Emma Allen was whistled for an offensive foul as she drove the lane and attempted to score.  On the ensuing possession, the Tigers applied full court pressure.  Autumn Allen came away with a steal and a layup, and Jerome led 38-37.

Twin Falls' Ava Fistolera tied the game at 38-38 with a made free throw.  With 53 seconds remaining, Jerome's Reagan Cook missed a tough shot underneath, Twin Falls rebounded, and on the Bruins' possession, Rylee Robbins missed a runner in the lane.  On the rebound attempt, Twin Falls' Skylar Westburg was whistled for a foul.

That sent Jerome's  Nyla Holtzen to the line for a one-and-one situation with 23 seconds to play.  Holtzen made the first, but missed the second, giving Twin Falls the ball with 27 seconds to play.

Trailing 39-38, Twin Falls attempted to run a play through the high post, but Autumn Allen came away with her second steal in a crucial spot, and was fouled.  Allen made one-of-two free throws, leaving the lead at 40-38 with 6.7 seconds to play.

On Twin Falls' final possession, the Bruins took too much time, and the buzzer sounded before they could attempt a shot.

With the road win, Jerome now moves into our latest 4A State Tournament projections, as the Tigers will face Minico on Thursday, February 9th for the district championship.  Twin Falls can still earn the second bid to state from District 4, but they will have to do so through the consolation bracket.

As a reminder, you can follow all of the district tournament action here.  Teams will be seeded according to their MaxPreps rating.  Teams in bold font have officially clinched state tournament bids.
