ORDER GAME PHOTOS

A year ago, the Coeur d'Alene VIkings entered the Class 5A District 1-2 Tournament as the two-time defending league champ and overall number one seed.  After a pair of shocking losses to Lake City and Post Falls, though, the Vikings were stuck on the sidelines during the 5A State Tournament.

Those demons were exorcised on Wednesday night, as the Vikings rolled past Lake City 56-35 to claim the district title and earn an automatic bid to state.  Madi Symons finished with 19 points to lead all scorers, while point guard Teagan Colvin added 17.  Lake City was led by Avery Waddington and Emberlyn Reynolds, who each scored ten points.

With the win, Coeur d'Alene is officially locked in as the number one seed at next week's 5A State Tournament.  Lake City could still finish as the number three seed overall, but the Timberwolves have to win a loser-out district game against Post Falls on Thursday night, and a State Tournament Play-In Game on Saturday against Eagle.

Elsewhere from Wednesday night's action:

-- Rigby left no doubt as to who the best team in 5A District 5-6 is, defeating Thunder Ridge for the second time in a week by a 71-51 margin.  Before the back-to-back losses to Rigby at districts, Thunder Ridge had been undefeated on the season.  The Titans will now face Mountain View in a State Tournament Play-In Game on Saturday.  We are still projecting Thunder Ridge to win that game, and advance to state as the number two seed based on their undefeated regular season.

-- Speaking of Mountain View, the Mavericks lost to Timberline by a 48-41 margin at the 5A District 3 Tournament.  Emmie Swillie, Grace Mertes and Piper Davis each scored ten points for the Wolves in the win.  Mountain View was paced by Demi Thompson's 14 points.  Timberline officially clinched a spot at state with the win, while Mountain View will have to defeat Thunder Ridge to move on.

-- In the other 5A District 3 game last night, Owyhee defeated Eagle 56-40, wrapping up an auto bid to state for the Storm.  Josie Davis finished with 11 points and ten rebounds for Owyhee, while Emma Atchely scored 12.  Eagle was led by Paige Cofer's 18 points, and the Mustangs now await the winner of Post Falls and Lake City for a State Tournament Play-In Game on Saturday.

-- Declo officially won their best-of-three game series against Wendell for the 2A District 4 championship.  The clincher came last night in a 49-42 win.  Ellie Erickson and Brynn Silcock each scored 14 points in the win for the Hornets.

-- Ririe won the 2A District 6 championship over North Fremont 44-36 on IdahoSports.com.  North Fremont dug themselves a hole early, outscored Ririe 14-7 in the third quarter, and threatened to take the lead in the fourth.  But Ririe held strong, and made just enough three-point shots to keep the Huskies at bay.  IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Makinley Bond led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while North Fremont sophomore Josie Richardson scored a game-high 17 points.

-- IdahoSports.com also provided live coverage of both contests at the 1AD1 District 4 tournament at the College of Southern Idaho, and neither game disappointed.  First, third-seeded Carey held off fifth-seeded Lighthouse Christian in a loser-out contest in overtime by a 46-39 score.  Rylie Quillin led the Panthers with 14 points, while IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Berenice Vargas added 12.

The Panthers will now battle Raft River for the second and final bid to state on Thursday night at Jerome High and on IdahoSports.com.  The second-seeded Trojans fell to top-seeded Oakley in the district championship game by a 31-26 margin.  IdahoSports.com Player of the Game Jentry Hawker , while Bentley Cranney finished with ten points.  Raft River was paced by Caroline Schumann's ten points.

-- And at the 1AD2 District 3 Tournament (also on IdahoSports.com), Council defeated Garden Valley 63-44 to win the district title and clinch an automatic bid to state.  Garden Valley will now face upstart Cascade, the fifth overall seed that has knocked out third-seeded Tri-Valley and fourth-seeded Salmon River in consecutive games.  The winner of that game will take the district's second bid to state.

Here is our latest Bracketology.  As a reminder, you can follow all of the district tournament action here.  Teams will be seeded according to their MaxPreps rating.  Teams in bold font have officially clinched state tournament bids.
