Prairie and Lapwai met for the 1AD1 championship a year ago.  Is a repeat matchup in store this season?

ORDER GAME PHOTOS

Over the past two seasons, the Lapwai and Prairie girls basketball teams have gotten awfully familiar with one another.

The Whitepine League rivals have met eight times over the past two years (twice in the regular season both years, in the championship game of the Avista Holiday Tournament this year, for the District 2 championship both years, and for the 1AD1 state championship a year ago.)

Lapwai is 7-1 in those contests, and their latest win came last night in a 59-25 runaway for the District 2 championship.  Freshman Jaelyn McCormack-Marks led the attack with 16 points, while her sister, junior Jordyn McCormack-Marks, added 11.  Quibilah Mitchell tossed in 11 as well for the Wildcats.  With the win, Lapwai clinched the number one overall seed at the 1AD1 State Tournament, where they will be heavily favored to defend their crown.

Prairie was paced by Sage Elven's six points, while Tara Schlader and Kristin Wemhoff each had five.  The Pirates will now face Kamiah in the third place game tonight at Lewiston High.  The winner will clinch the league's second bid to state.  A Prairie win would put the Pirates as the number two overall seed at state.

Elsewhere:

-- Timberlake turned in a dominating performance in clinching the 3A District 1 title over Bonners Ferry.  The Tigers defeated the Badgers last night 47-32, and won their best-of-three game series two games to none.  Timberlake is no stranger to success at the 3A State Tournament, but last year represented a rare miss for coach Matt Miller's program.  Kellogg represented the district at state a year ago, but they have since moved down to Class 2A.

-- Speaking of Kellogg, the Wildcats fell to Grangeville 52-25 in the 2A District 1-2 championship game.  The Bulldogs were led by Madalyn Green's 14 points, while Addisyn Vanderwall, Caryss Barger and Abbie Frei each scored 11 points in the win.  The Bulldogs clinched a spot at state, while Kellogg must now battle Orofino in the third place game.  The winner of that game will then face Ambrose in a 2A State Tournament Play-In Game.

-- And Soda Springs wrapped up the 2A District 5 title with a 49-33 win over West Side.  The Cardinals will carry the number two overall seed into the 2A State Tournament.  West Side will now face North Fremont in a State Tournament Play-In Game.  North Fremont swept West Side in a pair of narrow wins in the regular season, so for the moment, we are projecting North Fremont to win that game.

Here is our latest Bracketology.  As a reminder, you can follow all of the district tournament action here.  Teams will be seeded according to their MaxPreps rating.  Teams in bold font have officially clinched state tournament bids.
