1AD1 Girls Quarter-Final Game Recaps
A look at all the games played at the Columbia High School on Thursday

CHALLIS 49, NOTUS 47:  A potential game-tying shot was waved off in the closing seconds for the Notus Pirates as the Challis  Vikings held on for a dramatic, 49-47, win in the opening round of the 1A Division 1 state tournament at Columbia High School on Thursday.

The apparent game-tying basket was waved off when a foul was whistled just before the shot, sending Notus to the line for a 1-and-1 free throw situation.  The Pirates missed the front end and Challis was able to hold on.

Laura Parkinson had a big game for Challis, collecting 17 points and six rebounds in the win.  Notus senior Alana Riley led all scorers with 21 points, chipping in four rebounds, four assists and two steals as well.

Both teams struggled from the free throw line, combining to make just 11 of 36 charity tosses.

The tightly-contested game featured eight ties and neither team led the game at any point by more than eight points.

Challis advances to face Lapwai in a 1A Division 1 semifinal on Friday.  Notus will face Shoshone in the consolation round.

LAPWAI 54, SHOSHONE 23:  The Wildcats started fast and eased home in their 1A Division I quarterfinal game Thursday, defeating Shoshone, 54-23.

Lapwai forced Shoshone into 28 total turnovers and had a 20-point halftime lead.  Taylor Whitney had 13 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Wildcats while teammate added 12 points and three steals.

Shoshone couldn't overcome the slow start, shooting just 12 percent (2/17) in the first half.  Freshman Bailee Owens paced the Indians with seven points and eight rebounds.  Hanna Caylor had 14 rebounds in the loss for Shoshone.

Lapwai meets Challis in a semifinal at 6:15 on Friday.

PRAIRIE 48, VALLEY 25:  The Pirates authored a dominating second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 16-3, and clamped down the rest of the way for the 23-point win.

After surrendering 15 points in the first quarter, Prairie's defense held Valley to just ten points the rest of the way.  For the game, Valley shot just 9/48 (19 percent) from the floor, including 0/11 from the three-point line.

The Pirates got 23 points from junior Kylie Tidwell, along with four assists and two steals.  Tidwell connected on four of six from the three-point line in nearly outscoring the entire Valley team by herself.  Angela Wemhoff added eight points for Prairie.

Valley was led by six points off the bench from junior Taylor Hodges and five points from Madisyn Kimmel.

Prairie will face White Pine rival Genesee in a semifinal game Friday at 8:00, while Valley will face Liberty Charter in the consolation bracket.

GENESEE 58, LIBERTY CHARTER 39:  The Bulldogs scored 17 of the game's first 18 points and never looked back, rolling to a 19-point win over District III's top seed, Liberty Charter.

The Patriots shot just 2/12 from the floor in the first half and turned the ball over 20 times in the game to thwart any hopes of a second-half comeback.

Returning all-state player Kaleigh Ranisate stuffed the box score with a game-high 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, four steals and a blocked shot.  Anna Druffel and Calysta Prindle each chipped in with 11 points.

Erika Linford led Liberty Charter with nine points.  Micaela Hulsey added six points and six rebounds for the Patriots, who will play Shoshone in the consolation bracket on Friday.

Genesee, which had to win a play-in game to reach the 1A Division 1 tournament, advances to a Friday semifinal game against Prairie.
