There wasn’t much drama in the 2A bracket at Capital High School, with three of the four games decided by double figures. Only St. Maries, a three-point winner over Soda Springs, had to hold its breath in the game’s final minute.
Meanwhile, Firth, West Side and Wendell each represented its district with strong victories. West Side held West Jefferson to just 21 points in the nightcap while Wendell’s Johnny Lancaster had an impressive, all-around game in his team’s 67-45 win over Melba.
Lancaster scored 17 points and hauled in 17 rebounds for the Trojans, who will face West Side in one 2A semifinal on Friday.
The other semifinal will feature Firth, which out-scored Nampa Christian in three of the four quarters, and the aforementioned Lumberjacks, who scored the game’s first seven points but found themselves in a nip-and-tuck quarterfinal with the Cardinals. St. Maries hit just 11 of 24 free throws in the second half, enabling Soda Springs to stay close, and the Lumberjacks played most of the way without Brady Martin, who had seven points and four rebounds in just 13 minutes before fouling out.
