A Stacked Deck Rocky Mountain running back Jordan Deck giving Grizzlies' ground game and offense teeth

Rocky Mountain's Jordan Deck has 290 yards rushing with 5 TDs in the Grizzlies' first two games. | MERIDIAN - It takes all of a second before Jordan Deck
flashes asmile and starts cracking a joke. His teammates jump at the chance to
tell about Deck's latest prank.
"You don't want things to get too heavy," said the Rocky
Mountain senior running back. "It's not good when there's a bunch of tension
around, so it's good to lighten the mood." Deck wastes no time in launching into a story about the time
he woke his older brother up from a dead sleep and goaded him into chasing him
downstairs where his older brother got in trouble with their parents - and Deck
escaped any parental wrath. While Deck may be a laugh a minute off the field, Deck is
serious when it comes time to hit the field. "I would never make a joke in the huddle," said Deck,
immediately losing any hint of a smile. There's no doubt he means it - and his
statistics echo that sentiment. In Rocky Mountain's first two games of the season - both
"Linder Road rivalries" against Meridian and Eagle - Deck has anchored the
Grizzlies' ground game, rushing for 290 yards and five touchdowns in two
convincing wins. (Watch The 2-Minute Drill on ... Jordan Deck)
Rocky Mountain head coach Jason Warr is also convinced that
Deck has impressive skills on the gridiron. "(Jordan's) vision is amazing and his hips are the best I've
ever seen," Warr said. "He keeps everything full speed. He's smooth. His
leverage and strength are very good and he brings all those things together to
the field, and that's what makes him so successful." With speedy wide receiver Dallas Burroughs on the outside,
Deck's abilities on the inside present opposing defense's with a formidable
challenge in stopping the pair. "(Jordan) makes people honest," Warr said. "They have to
respect him so that gives us room for guys like Dallas Burroughs and Chase
Place on the outside. ... They can't stay on the outside and take care of Dallas
and they can't stay on the inside and take care of Jordan." Deck also recognizes how his skills fit it in neatly with
the Grizzlies' potent offense, which has scored 83 points in their first two
games. "It's good for us because they've got to respect the pass
that we have," said Deck, who has received interest from Weber State, Puget Sound
and Idaho State. "We have some really good receivers and a really good
quarterback. We can pass at any time or run at any time." Warr likens Deck to Boise State running back Jeremy Avery. "They're both not very big but both really shifty," Warr
said. "And like Avery, when Jordan gets out in the open, he's got some good
speed." Rocky Mountain will need Deck's speed among
other skills this Friday when the Grizzlies face Mountain View, which entered
into a track meet with Centennial last week before losing 56-42.
