Key Players Lost: Kaine Kamerdula, broken leg, probably won't be able to play this coming year. QB Keith Heil, FB/LB Bo Green
Incoming JV Players: QB/WR Steve Waldon, Sr., 5-10, 160; RB/LB Austin McKinney, Jr., 5-9, 165; WR Tony Randall, Sr., 5-11, 160; LB Frank Savage, Soph., 5-11, 170; RB/CB Lucas Pate, Soph., 5-6, 135; We have an outstanding group of incomming freshmen.
Offensive strengths/areas for improvement: With our returning RB and linemen we should have a very solid running game. If Kamerdula is able to play it could be terrific. We need whomever is going to be our QB to step up and be able to make plays through the air and take advantage of All-State WR Randy Nichols.
Defensive strengths/areas for improvement: Once Again we have some very good linemen and will only be better if Kamerdula is able to play. Both starting CBs return and are both very good players. Austin McKinney received valuable playing time at the end of the year and in the playoffs at LB, and we expect him to step up this year. With our declining numbers we need our younger players to be able to step in at times and give us solid play when needed.
Special team Strengths: Our special teams will get a complete makeover. We lost our kicker, punter, long snapper and punt returner. We have several candidates to take over each position. It should be a good battle to see who fills each position this fall.
Offensive Outlook: Our running game should be our strength. We need to settle our QB position this summer, and our offense could be very good. Our incoming players need to contribute early on.
Defensive Outlook: Once again we don't have a lot of experienced depth, but have some outstanding younger players coming into our program. We need to find a linemen and a LB who will step up, and this could be a very solid defensive group. We have some very good, experienced linemen and corners; we will just need to gel as a unit early on.
Conference Outlook: Our conference will be a lot tougher top to bottom than it has been the past few years. There won't be any easy games this year in conference. I think almost any team could come out on top.
Coach's Team Summary: It seems like every year we say this, but it is especially true this year with our declining numbers. We need to stay away from injuries, which have really hit us hard the past few years. The team has very good potential this year; we need a few of the incoming players to step up early on, especially at QB, and we could be very good. Like last year, I think injuries could play a key role in what happens to us this season.
