Key Players Lost: RB/DB Shawn Murphy, LB Luke Lane, OL/LB Les Wright
Offensive strengths/areas for improvement: We have many of our skill position players returning. Darian Ball is a three-year starter at quarterback. Garret Langston and Jack Nygaard return at running back and wide receiver. That will be our strength initially because we will have a very young and inexperienced offensive line. The line will rely heavily on our only returning starter, Mike Morris. So we will rely on our returning skill players initially and as the season progresses the young lines improvement will allow us to be ready by the time we have to play Grangeville for playoff positioning.
Defensive strengths/areas for improvement: We lost many starters on the defensive side, but we do return our best defensive linemen in Mike Morris. We also will return two linebackers, Garrett Langston and Tim Proskine. The secondary has one starter, Jack Nygaard, and others players who saw time during last season. The defense is not as inexperienced as the offense, but we do have some younger players who can fill into positions and hopefully make us very competitive on that side of the ball.
Special team Strengths: Darian Ball will return for the third season as our punter and kicker. However we will need to find a new return specialist with the graduation of Shawn Murphy and a new long snapper.
Conference Outlook: With only two teams in our conference it really comes down to one game. And every time Grangeville and Kamiah play it is a very competitive game. I believe Grangeville has more returning players so they should be the favorite, but we will definitely try to improve as a team so that we can challenge them for the league trophy.
Coach's Team Summary: This team has the least amount of varsity experience returning since I have been at Kamiah (14 years). We also are not very deep in the number of players in our junior and senior class, which means we are going to have to rely on some young players. This team will have to compete very hard to have a successful season; however, I think that our overall team speed will be better than last season which should allow us to make up for some mistakes that inexperience causes.
