Ramblin' Man
The Miami Heat, Monday Night Football, a question to answer, and the almighty NCAA.

A very strange thing happened to me a short time ago.  I was watching the opening game of the NBA where the Celtics were playing the Miami Heat. Just so you know, the team I hate the most is the Boston Celtics.  As a young boy, I saw them beat my beloved Lakers way too many times, and my dislike of that team runs through every artery and vein in my body.

So when I turned the game on, I was wondering who I would root for since I suddenly dislike the Heat, as well.  When you dislike both teams, you’d like to see a scoreless tie, but as the game started, I slowly but surely realized that I was rooting for the Celtics.  I can’t believe I just said I was rooting for the Celtics.  But I was.  There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.  When players start to build their own super teams to win championships, I’m jumping overboard every single time.  But rest assured of one thing:that’s the only time I will be rooting for the men in green.  And if I find a scenario where I root for the Fruitland Grizzlies, Hell will have completely frozen over.

Next Monday, I want you to check something out that I believe I saw on Monday Night Football last week.  When they go through the starting line-up with the players on the offense, the QB is not pictured with the rest of the offense.  I even re-wound my DVR to make sure I didn’t miss it.  Maybe it was just a one night slip up, but I will be checking it out come next Monday.  And if it happens again, I will be wondering why they don’t include the QB in the starting line-up.

Speaking of which, did you see Albert Haynesworth on MNF?   He fell down while rushing Michael Vick, and then stayed on the ground on purpose as Vick continued to scramble until he found a receiver in the back of the end zone for a TD.  This is the same guy who signed a $100 million contract. Oh yeah, I forgot, he doesn’t like the 3-4 defense he is in.  Waaahhhhhhh! Does he like the paycheck he’s cashing each month?

Here’s a question for you. Would you rather lose with class athletes who are coachable, or win the super bowl with the arrogant, cry me a river athletes who are uncoachable. Those are your only two choices.  No one wants to win more than me, but after years of coaching, I would rather lose with the classy athletes.  For you guys that like athletes such as Dennis “I kicked a camera man” Rodman, Terrell “look at me” Owens,Randy “I’m taking this play off” Moss, Barry “I’m a complete jerk” Bonds, or Albert “Wah” Haynesworth…you can have them. I may lose, but at least I’ll have my peace of mind.

OK, I have officially had it with the NCAA.  USC had to suspend one of its athletes for the Oregon State game this last Saturday.  Dillon Baxter, a freshman tailback, broke a“rule” and USC suspended him.  So what did he do wrong?  This is no joke: he took a ride in a golf cart across campus.  If you want the particulars,go to this article.

While the NCAA rakes in billions, an athlete can’t even hop in a golf cart for a ride.  I have blogged on the NCAA before, and for those of you who think that a free scholarship is worth enough of the cut from the money football makes, what about the athletes who are not on scholarship…..and there are thousands of them.  They are risking permanent damage to their bodies that will affect them the rest of their lives through spinal injuries, concussions, and much more. Some college athletes have even lost their lives.  So they help the NCAA make billions of dollars, yet they can’t have a ride in a golf cart.  You wouldn’t think something like this could happen in this country. Think again.
