The Zac Brown Concert
If you didn't go, you missed the finest concert I have ever been to.

I have been to many concerts in my life. Among those I consider my favorites include: Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Barenaked Ladies, Tom Petty, and America. Having just recently gone to the Zac Brown Concert, I have a new all time favorite.

He was absolutely awesome. His music was extremely clean and clear. He sang for a full two hours and didn’t do the “encore” game we all have to play at concerts. I have always hated cheering for more songs. Just play all your songs and we’ll go home. That’s the way Zac Brown did it and I commend him for that. I do believe he played longer than any other concert I have been at. I saw one blogger who complained he didn’t do an encore. This guy would have been happier if Brown had played for 90 minutes and did one encore than if he played for two hours without an encore. Go figure.

My wife bought us tickets on the day they went on sale, and we were on the floor of the Taco Bell Arena. When we walked in at 6 pm, I noticed that the floor had no chairs, which meant we had to stand up for five hours. On the other hand, it meant we were about 6 feet from the stage. Can you say hog heaven?

I have never been that close to the stage before. At a Jackson Browne concert in Davis, California back in the 70’s, I was fairly close, but nothing like this. It was absolute great except for one small detail: rude, pretty, drunk women. Throughout the entire concert, women tried to push past us to the stage. They were trying to use their good looks to get them close to the stage. My wife was our hero of the night as she kept all the drunken girls at bay. There was no way they were getting in front of us while Penny was there. I married quite a little trooper, and we were all thankful for her that night. We also had to shut up two drunken girls next to us who would not stop talking loudly during the songs. These girls weren’t even paying attention to the concert; they were just drinking and being loud and obnoxious. My brother-in-law finally told them to shut up and listen to the concert.

Another girl was trying to get on the crowd shots on the big video board above the band, and she was waving a T-shirt that said “Little Miss F****** Sunshine. She showed how much class she had by displaying the F-bomb in public. As she waved it, she was blocking the view of people behind her (she didn’t care), and she was hitting me and my brother-in law with the T-shirt constantly (again, she didn’t care). She kept this up until Rusty told her that if she hit him with the T-shirt one more time, he was going to rip it out of her hands and she wouldn’t see it again.

As a teacher, I know that at the end of the year, many more boys have been sent to the office than girls. We all understand that. But at this concert, it was the females who stood out as the people needing a little discipline. No, make that a lot of it. I told my wife that I never want to be on the floor again. The close proximity to the stage was awesome, but standing for five hours was brutal at my age, and I never want to deal with drunk ladies being rude again.

So promise me one thing: that you will go to a Zac Brown concert once in your life. He told the Boise crowd he would be back “for many years to come.” For me, I will be back there, as well. In fact, I would pay $100 a ticket and drive for 12 hours to see him. I really would. He is that good. In the mean time, get his latest CD “You Get What You Give.” It is one of the finest CD’s I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, especially when I can hear it at home and the only drunken women is my lovely wife, Penny!
