The Lapwai boys basketball team, with 86 wins and just seven losses since the start of the 2020-21 season, are in the midst of another special season.

Several talented players have donned the red, white and blue of the Lapwai uniform over the years, but none will have as decorated a career as 6-foot-6 senior Kase Wynott.

The Utah State University commit has been a starter since the mid-point of his freshman season, and his basketball talents were apparent from the jump.

Now, as Wynott prepares for the final stretch of his career, Idaho's all-time scoring record is in his sights.

After exploding for 68 points in Lapwai's 105-43 win over Genesee on Friday night, Wynott finds himself six points shy of breaking the all-time record of 2,589, set by Kamiah's Jared Mercer in 1993.

Wynott entered the season with 1,991 total points in his career, and remarkably, after Friday's 68-point effort, he is still in third place on the all-time scoring list, as he trails second place Spencer Lynn of Wilder by a single point.

Most likely, the record will broken during Lapwai's home tilt with Clearwater Valley on Thursday, January 25th.

According to idahoops.com and our own independent research, here's the career points scored leaderboard, after Friday's games:
