'Shootout Selections: Girls State Quarterfinals'
I make my picks for the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Girls 'Real Dairy Shootout'.

Think of your favorite times of the year. Maybe it's hunting season, golf season, Christmas, Halloween, summer vacation or something else.

While I love golfing and the holidays, there's nothing quite like mid-February to early March in Idaho - and we can skip the talk of the dreary weather.

It's state tournament time! And honestly, this may be my favorite time of the year.

Once again, we are proud to present the online video coverage of the girls state basketball tournament here on IdahoSports.com. The 2016 'Real Dairy Shootout' promises to be awesome once again - and we are so pumped up to be able to bring you these games online again.

66 games, 3 days, and few chances for sleep in between. We'd have it no other way. Lots of work goes on behind the scenes by many dedicated, hardworking individuals at IdahoSports.com and we do it because we flat out LOVE our jobs.

As many of you know, I grew up in Canada and graduated from high school in Alberta in 2004. Our school was small, one that would rank in the mid-2A range if it were here in Idaho. There was no such thing as online video streaming, online scores and schedules, or anything of the sort for us. We were lucky to get a short blurb in the paper about how we did the previous night or week.

That's why IdahoSports.com is special to me. When I discovered IdahoSports.com in 2010, I found myself thinking 'Man, I wish I had something like this in high school!" But the one thing that stood out to me more so than anything else was that, indeed, EVERY school was represented on the site... even the tiny small schools in communities I'd never heard of at that point.

I joined the team here at IdahoSports.com in the fall of 2011 and did my first state basketball broadcast at the 2012 1A Division-II tournament at Nampa HS. It was a BLAST. Since that time I've covered various different classifications, all of which have been extremely fun.

This year, however, I'm returning to where it all started for me - Nampa HS and the 1A Division-II girls tournament. I'm absolutely thrilled to be covering the smallest classification of the tournament. The passion from the fans and communities is just fantastic. On 'Super Saturday', you can find me all day at the Idaho Center with the broadcast crews on each state championship game as the technical director and executive producer. Make sure you come say hi!

Now, as I do each year, it's time for my personal 'Shootout Selections'. Every day of the tournament, I will post my predictions for outcomes of each game in all six classifications. Two things to remember about this: #1 - I don't have a 'hometown team' and #2 - don't take it personally if I pick against your team. It's all for fun! One thing is for certain: I won't get all of my picks right (although I did come close one day last year). The end goal of these picks? Just beat the averages of Paul Kingsbury and Sven Alskog on their picks.
