The Centennial Lady Patriots were one of the favorites to qualify for the state tournament last year; but after a superb regular season the Patriots stumbled in district playoffs and lost to the hands of Capital and Mountain View and finished with an 18-5 record. After missing the state tournament, third year Head Coach Cassie Bro and her team are hungry to get back to the tournament where they were two seasons ago (snapped a 10 year drought).

Centennial graduated four seniors last year, but their roster is still filled with young talent. Leading the Patriots again this season will be three-year starter junior-guard Dominique Williams. Coach Bro said Williams has the ability to play all five positions, and with her strength and her athleticism she has the ability to change the game on both ends of the floor. Joining Williams again this season will be junior guard Tori Williams (not-related), who led the Patriots in scoring last season with 16.87 points per game. Both have already been offered Division 1 scholarships. These two ladies can really fill up the stat sheet and are very fun to watch. Rounding out the returners this season will be sophomore point-guard Ayana Amaechi, sophomore forward Lauren Brocke, and a couple of seniors in forward, Robyn Koetter, and post Olivia Haney, who have all shown improvement over the summer.

The key for the Lady Patriots this season is to play together and to play to their full ability said Coach Bro. “We have great guard play and are very fun to watch. We have some great newcomers and all returners have gotten better during the offseason so it will be exciting to see how we bounce back from last season’s disappointment and how we can come together and develop as a team.” Centennial could benefit from a third scoring option this season with both Williams’s girls scoring 61.5% of the points for the Patriots last year.

A goal for the Patriots this season is be more balanced on both ends of the floor and be playing to their full ability collectively come district tournament time. If they can learn to play together as one unit, making the state tournament will be in the cards for these talented lady Patriots.

GAMES TO WATCH: Rematch game vs. Mountain View January 8, 2015 @ Centennial. This game will feature some great and talented guard play. All three games last year were decided by a combined eight points, with Centennial taking two out of the three.
