The 2016 season started with a lot of promise for the Filer Wildcats in the first year for the team under Head Coach Robert Anderson. After a 3-1 start however, the Wildcats slid to four consecutive losses at the end of the year, scoring just 22 combined points over the course of those games.

Now that a bulk of the talent has a year of experience in the system, the Wildcats are hoping to take a big step in the right direction.

With that said, it is easy to see what Anderson's biggest source of excitement is for this season.

"Building on the success we saw last year and seeing where the program will go this year."

Talent returns in skill positions but the exodus of some of the offensive line, including Ben Lammers, will create a big challenge against teams such as Gooding and Kimberly in conference play.

"We have a lot of skill players returning, so the focus will be on finding an offensive line," said Anderson.

He hopes to see improvement with consistency and the passing game for Filer to really get going on that side of the ball.

Josh Hughes and Austyn Sherman each return to anchor the backfield, which leads right back into the need for the offensive front to be stabilized to really maximize their potential.

On defense, the Wildcats showed glimpses of good potential last season before struggling mightily in a couple games down the stretch.

"Continuing with another year in our system [we are] hoping the learning gap will be shorter and players will be farther ahead than last year," said Anderson.

Tackling and pass coverage were identified as areas Filer will need to show improvement in.

The first opportunity to get a look at the 2017 Wildcats will be on August 25 at North Fremont.
