Conference Preview

1ADII North Star Conference

Written by: Jamey Vinnick

Lakeside is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Troy 50-31. Coming off a season in which they went 9-11, the Knights are hoping to improve this year lead by senior leaders Samantha Adrian and Tamara Anderson.

Clark Fork meanwhile isn’t off to an ideal start with an 0-2 record and losses to both Priest River and Plains. The Wampus Cats were 7-6 last year with aspirations of a better campaign this year.

Genesis Prep is off to a very rocky start, getting defeated 52-10 by Northwest Christian School and 97-11 by Lapwai. The Jaguars were 14-11 last year but struggled with two higher-level teams to start their season.

Mullan was defeated by North Idaho Christian by a score of 62-29 to start the season and then fell to Highland (Craigmont).

After a season as an independent, the Miners drop down to the 1ADII level to compete in the North Star League. Head coach Nichole Farkas enters her third season leading the Wallace girls team and said the amount of returning experience will make the Miners immediate contenders.

"I think we will have feistiness on defense that will bother some teams," Farkas said. "We play well together. We need to work on limiting turnovers and work on making good decisions. If we can stay healthy and injury-free, we hope to surprise some teams at the end of the season."
