Camas County never has the numbers that you see at programs like Carey and Dietrich, however plenty of quality talent has come through in the last few years, which has allowed the Mushers to compete within the 1AD2 Sawtooth Conference.

This season should be no different, with a top quarterback in the classification returning in Trey Smith and the athletic Alex Robles manning wide receiver on offense and defensive end on the other side of the ball.

Smith earned All-Conference accolades last year and should be in store for an even bigger season as he enters his senior year.

“Dawson Kramer and Alex Robles are forces to be reckoned with after a summer of camps and lifting. Trey Smith has worked on his passing skills and will be the best quarterback in the conference,” said head coach Rusty Kramer.

Building a rapport with some new faces at the skill positions will be critical.

“Getting new players involved in the offense will be fun to see. The weapons are more spread out, so should be a more balanced team,” said Kramer.

On defense, Robles and Dawson Kramer are expected to have big seasons out of a 4-2 defensive look.

Colby Thompson is another senior who will play center and defensive line. Freshman wide receiver and linebacker Marcus Staley is another player who is expected to make an immediate impact.

There has been a clear point of emphasis for the Mushers this offseason.

“Getting new players used to the pace of the game. We need to come into the season in peak shape because most players will be playing every down of the game,” added Kramer.

When all is said and done, Camas County should have another realistic shot at a playoff berth. A major challenge will present itself right out of the gates in week one as the Mushers welcome in Lighthouse Christian.
