The Bulldogs saw a swift exit in the first round of the 2019 playoffs.
After completing a 5-3 regular season campaign, Ririe drew an unfavorable matchup against the West Side Pirates, who would eventually go on to win the 2019 2A state championship. The Bulldogs’ offense struggled, much like it had in its previous three losses, failing to score against the top-ranked Pirates.
The loss marked the second shutout loss for Ririe on the year. The Bulldogs previously fell to West Side in the regular season 18-0 and Firth 54-0.
Outside those three losses, the Bulldog defense helped propel the team to a successful 2019 outing. In each of its five wins, Ririe held opposing teams to below 10 points, including three sub-10 performances against Soda Springs, West Jefferson and Salmon.
Regardless, the Bulldogs finished third in the 2A Nuclear Conference, a finish Head Coach Jim Newton will want to improve upon. That task won’t be easy, as the Ririe competes in the same conference as North Fremont, a semi-final contender from a year ago.
The Bulldogs kick off against Soda Springs Aug. 28 to open the season, and close the regular season against North Fremont Oct. 16 in a matchup that could have serious conference-standing implications. Ririe will look to enact its revenge against the Huskies, who won last year’s game 38-8.
