Thanks for a nice season, Rocky.
Hand it to the Pats..they got it done. Congrats..good luck. I've heard no excuses from the program or players, but as a fan looking back now, I do have two points to make: First, Rocky Mountain earned the right to host that game, and I would like to hear anyone's arguments otherwise. They won the Division, had a better overall record and againt common opponents, and of course, Rocky won the head-to-head on the Patriots field. MERIT is an important value to uphold, whatever you do in life. I suppose this all has something to do with egos and/or balancing out travel issues between the regions in our state, but that matter wasn't relevant here with two SIC Division 2 teams. In fact, you have to work it pretty hard to explain why not at Rocky, and that should be your first indicator that something is wrong. "Do the right thing!" is guidance enough here. (Or, how about a neutral field?) The school system should be teaching and modeling that notion and that we pursue excellence, we fix problems and we want to "do good" in the world. We use our minds and roles to do just that. The IHSAA's system just doesn't stand up to simple intellectual scrutiny. Make it better. (And while you're at it, allow the 5A SIC teams to spend some of their own raised support to play more baseball games..let them pursue excellence.) I digress...back to football.. Secondly, please Centennial..find it in your priorities to get 5A caliber goal posts put up. Donate yours to an Optimist field near you. I see upright extensions are sold on the web...or, design your own. It's not right for a state 5A semifinal to have any question about whether the official had "a good angle" on the missed RM PAT (he wasn't standing directly underneath).
