Name: Tyler Robinett
School: Middleton High School
Grade: Senior
Sport: Basketball
Position: Forward

How did you first get interested in your basketball?
I think growing up watching a lot of high school basketball that my parents took me to, especially the state tournament every year made me really love basketball. That, and just playing basketball outside with my siblings and friends

If you play other sports, which is your favorite and why?
I played football every year until this year, but I’ve always loved basketball way more than any other sport I played.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from high school sports?
Hard work pays off. I’ve spent countless hours in the gym and thankfully it has been showing. Hard work will win you loose balls and rebounds and eventually, games.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad and it was that sometimes you can’t care about what everyone thinks about you on the basketball court, and to just go make a play.

What has been your favorite high school memory so far?
Winning three straight games to make it to state last year after losing the first game in districts. We had to travel all the way down to Kimberly High School and beat Bonneville to go to state.

What coaches or teachers have made the biggest impact on your athletic career?
My weight coach, Coach Kiser, definitely has made a huge difference in my physical strength as well as mental strength in the last three years. Even in eighth grade when I would lift weights before school, he was there always supporting me and my teammates. He has always supported me in everything that I have done.

My basketball coach Andy Harrington has been close with me since I was 14 on the Idaho Select club team. He pushes me to be great every day and has always believed in me. He has made me the player I am today.

Which teammates have you really connected with during high school?
Cash Cowdery has been my neighbor forever and we have always competed in everything we have done. He pushes me to be better and I push him to be better every single day.

Tyler Medaris is one of the few players who can really guard me and who is a real challenge for me to guard. He has really become a great player the past few years and will probably be better than me when he’s done with high school.

Is there anyone in your family who have helped you get to where you are today?
Both my parents, especially my dad, helped me get here. I remember how he would always be telling me that if I wanted to be great, I needed to get in the gym. He would even wake up early on Saturdays and come rebound for me. He has let me play as much basketball as I wanted and he always took me to practice. I can’t appreciate him enough.

My brother also drove me to better. We would always play on our court outside and he would beat me every time. As he got older, he was one of the best players in the conference and he made me want to be even better

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I like to be as mentally strong as I am physically. I read a lot and try to learn as much as I can about anything that interests me, especially stuff outside of basketball. If you want to get smarter, read a book and focus on it.

What about this season are you looking forward to the most?
I hope to get to play in the Idaho Center on Saturday night in the state championship. But first, we have to get through districts and into state. I’m not looking past anyone, but that is what excites me most.
