Picking the 6 Championship Football Games
It's time for all of us to pick the 6 state champs in football.

5A:  I'm going with the Madison Bobcats to upend the Vikings of Coeur d'Alene.  In the power rankings, these are the top two teams in the state. It should be a heck of a game.  Madison is trying for an undefeated season, while the Vikings are trying to complete a 10-2 season with a win.

4A:  Just like the 5A's, the top two teams in the power rankings match up in the title game. Each team has an identical 10-1 record.  I will take the Middleton Vikings to beat an excellent Blackfoot team.

3A:  The power rankings must be doing something right because we have the top two teams in the title game again.  Both have perfect 11-0 records coming into this game.  Somewhere along the line I need to go with an upset special.  Most people will probably go with the Grizzlies from Fruitland, but I'll take the Shelley Russets, who don't think this is an upset pick.

2A:  Like a broken and skipping record (you have to be old to get that one), once again the top two power ranked teams are in the hunt for the championship.  Both have perfect 11-0 records, and both teams are very recognizable names when it comes to the
playoffs.  Sorry, Stinger, but I am going with the Hornets from Declo losing a close game to the Cougars.  That's right...Firth will come in First.  Don't try saying that if you have a lisp.

1A1:  Idaho has so many small schools that they broke them into two divisions:  the "big" small schools (1A1) and the "small" small schools (1A2).  This game does not have the top two power teams.  Kamiah is undefeated and ranked #1, while Butte is #3 in the power rankings.  Butte County has been a 2A school recently, but they moved down a division.  So did the Kubs from Kamiah, and now they both meet for the title.  The Kubs will complete their perfect season my taking down the Pirates.

1A2:  Well, what do you know?  Dietrich, the top ranked team in the power rankings,  is not in the championship game.  Dietrich lost to Salmon River 35-12 last week, which is prompting me to pick the Savages over Lighthouse Christian for all the marbles.

So there you have it.  I know, many of you think I'm an idiot, and I agree.  So does my wife and the CEO of idahopsports.com, who I kicked out of my class for no reason at all. Still, he hired me to work for him so what does that tell you?  If you would like to pick 'em, too, just comment on this blog with your 6 winners.  Good luck to all the teams in state.
