The girls are done and now it's time for the Boys State Basketball Championships!!

After my prediction for the Girls’ State Basketball, I had a .500 batting average since I got 3 out of 6 correct.  I will try and improve on that with my prediction for the boys.  I know one thing:  if you go with all the favorites, you won’t get all sic right.  Who will upset who?   Or is it whom?  I don’t care, so here goes……………………

5A:  The favorite here has got to be Borah.  They are the defending champs, and Cary Cada has won back to back titles before.  Rocky Mtn is a formidable opponent, as are the Highland Rams.  In fact, any one of these teams could go on a 3 game winning streak.  I’m going with Cada and his Lions to beat the Rams in the title game.

4A:  Rigby is the defending champ, but I believe the final game in this division will come down to Skyview and the winner of the opening game between Twin Falls and Century.   These three teams seem like the cream of the crop in the 4A division, though upsets are bound to happen.  I’ll go with the Skyview Hawks soaring over the Bruins when the dust clears.

3A:  Fruitland is back again to go after a three peat, since they are defending back to back champs.  It will be very difficult because they are not in the top five in either the media polls or the power rankings here at idahosports.com.  Shelley, Filer, and Sugar-Saleem are all good teams and they are on the same side of the bracket.  Whoever survives from those three will face Timberlake for all the marbles. I’m going with Timberlake to prevail over the Shelley Russets in the title game.

2A:  If you remember what I said when I predicted for the girls, you know who I am going with in the 2A division:  The New Plymouth Pilgrims!  I will use my head on 5 out of the 6 divisions, but I have to go with my heart for the 2A title.  There were a lot of upsets in district in the 2A’s because some of the strong teams from the media polls and the power rankings are not here at state:  North Fremont, Salmon, Valley to name a few.  And Cole Valley, the #1 ranked team in the state, needed a play-in game to get here. However, they are the defending champs going for two in a row. I’ll take the Pilgrims over the Declo Hornets for the title.

1A D1:  Glenns Ferry is the defending champ, but they didn’t make it back to the big dance in 2013.  The favorite here is the #1 ranked Pirates from Butte County, and I am sticking with them.  They only have one loss on the season to Salmon on the second game of the season, and they come into state on a 15 game winning streak. They will beat the Kamiah Kubs in the title game on Saturday.

1A D2:  Nezperce is the defending champ and they are back to go for two in a row.  The top two teams in this bracket are the Dietrich Blue Devils and the Salmon River Savages.  If Dietrich could win, they would join their girls in a rare daily double since they already won the state title two weeks ago.  The Blue Devils have only lost two games, while Salmon River had only loss one.  They seem to be the cream of the crop in this bracket and both should advance to the title game.  I’ll go with the Salmon River stopping the Blue Devils shot at the daily double championships.

There you have it, folks!  Just comment on this blog with your pick six on the teams that will still be dancing when the big dance is over.
