My Girls State Championship Predictions
Each year I take a shot at predicting the six state champions in basketball. The girls are up first so here goes nothing.

5A: Defending two time champions Mountain View Mavericks
I’ll take the number one ranked Eagle Mustangs over Centennial in the final. All three polls (Coaches, Media, and IdahoSports) have them on top, so who am I to argue with experts?

4A: Defending two time champions Century Diamondbacks
There was a conflict in the polls for this one. Media-Middleton; Coaches- Century. I’ll go with the Vikings from Middleton to beat league rival Bishop Kelly primary because one of my ex-students is the JV coach there.  Go Hollie!

3A: Defending champions Timberlake Tigers
Timberlake is ranked #1 in all the polls, so I go along with the favorite to go back-to-back over the Sugar-Salem Diggers.

2A: Defending champions West Jefferson Panthers
Ririe is the top pick in all the polls and I will go with the Bulldogs over the Soda Springs Cardinals because I think it’s their time. Both the Bulldogs and the Cardinals have been to state many times in the past, and Soda won it two years ago in 2015. It’s time for Ririe’s first title.

1AD1:  Defending two time champions Lapwai Wildcats
Tell ya what. I’m not even gonna look at the polls on this one. I’m going with Lapwai because they are great year in and year out. If I go with them, I’ll be right more often than not. It will be a rematch from last years’ 47-43 title game with the Prairie Pirates.

1AD2: Defending two time champions Richfield Tigers
Since this new division was created for the 2009 season, only two teams have taken home the trophy, Richfield (4 times) and Dietrich (4 times). Well, wipe the slate clean because neither team made it in 2017. Butte County is the only team in Idaho with an unblemished record at 21-0. The two teams on their side of the bracket that they will probably face have a combined 4 loses. Still, I take the Pirates over the Castleford Wolves for all the marbles.

There you have it. Agree? Disagree? Let the predictions begin...
