Here is a look at all of the potential playoff and tiebreaker scenarios heading into the final week of the regular season.


1AD2 District 1-2 White Star League

Total berths to the state tournament: two.

Clinched Playoff Berth
Deary Mustangs

Deary and Kendrick have locked up their playoff berths and will now play for seeding.

1. If Deary beats Kendrick.

Deary would finish in first place and take seed 1-2A, and Kendrick would finish in second place and take seed 1-2B.

2. If Kendrick beats Deary.

Kendrick would finish in first place and take seed 1-2A, and Deary would finish in second place and take seed 1-2B.







1AD2 District 3 Long Pin Conference

Total berths to the state tournament: two.

The trio of Tri-Valley, Salmon River, and Garden Valley are all still in contention for the final two playoff berths. This week, Tri-Valley plays Garden Valley while Salmon River is off. Here are the scenarios:

1. If Tri-Valley beats Garden Valley.

Tri-Valley would finish in first place and take seed 3A, and Salmon River would finish in second place and take seed 3B.

2. If Garden Valley beats Tri-Valley.

There would be a three-way tie for first place between Tri-Valley, Salmon River, and Garden Valley.

The tiebreaker would be a 3-way Kansas City Playoff that would take place on either Saturday Oct. 28 or Monday Oct. 30 at a neutral location. The winner of the Kansas City Playoff would finish in first place and take seed 3A, the runner-up in the Kansas City Playoff would finish in second place and take seed 3B, and the loser of the Kansas City Playoff would be eliminated from postseason contention.






1AD2 District 4 Sawtooth West Conference

Total berths to the state tournament: four.

One week remains in the regular season for the Sawtooth West Conference and three teams have clinched playoff berths (Carey, Lighthouse Christian, and Dietrich), with three more looking to nab the last spot in the tournament (Castleford, Camas County, Murtaugh). Carey has locked up the top seed and the district crown, regardless of what happens this week. It should be noted that the four berths to the state tournament are really to the play-in round of the playoffs.

This week, Carey hosts Richfield, Dietrich hosts Lighthouse Christian, Castleford is at Murtaugh, and Hansen is at Camas County. Here are the scenarios:

1.    If Dietrich beats Lighthouse Christian, Castleford beats Murtaugh, and Camas County beats Hansen.

Dietrich finishes in second place and takes seed 4B, Lighthouse Christian finishes in third place and takes seed 4C, Castleford finishes in fourth place and takes seed 4D, and Murtaugh and Camas County are eliminated.

2.    If Dietrich beats Lighthouse Christian, Castleford beats Murtaugh, and Hansen beats Camas County.

Dietrich finishes in second place and takes seed 4B, Lighthouse Christian finishes in third place and takes seed 4C, Castleford finishes in fourth place and takes seed 4D, and Murtaugh and Camas County are eliminated.

3.    If Dietrich beats Lighthouse Christian, Murtaugh beats Castleford, and Camas County beats Hansen.

4.    If Dietrich beats Lighthouse Christian, Murtaugh beats Castleford, and Hansen beats Camas County.

Dietrich finishes in second place and takes seed 4B, Lighthouse Christian finishes in third place and takes seed 4C, Murtaugh finishes in fourth place and takes seed 4D, and Castleford and Camas County are eliminated.

5.    If Lighthouse Christian beats Dietrich, Castleford beats Murtaugh, and Camas County beats Hansen.

Lighthouse Christian finishes in second place and takes seed 4B, Dietrich finishes in third place and takes seed 4C, Castleford finishes in fourth place and takes seed 4D, with Murtaugh and Camas County being eliminated.

6.    If Lighthouse Christian beats Dietrich, Castleford beats Murtaugh, and Hansen beats Camas County.

Lighthouse Christian finishes in second place and takes seed 4B, Dietrich finishes in third place and takes seed 4C, Murtaugh finishes in fourth place and takes seed 4D, and Castleford and Camas County are eliminated.





1AD2 District 5-6 Sawtooth East Conference

Total berths to the state tournament: four.

The tiebreaker is a 3-way Kansas City Playoff, which would take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 or Monday, Oct. 23 at a neutral location. The winner of the Kansas City Playoff would earn seed 5-6D with the other two schools being eliminated from postseason contention.

3.    If Butte County beats North Gem, Rockland beats Clark-Watersprings, and Mackay beats Sho-Ban.

Butte County will finish in first place and take seed 5-6A, Clark-Watersprings will finish in second place and take seed 5-6B, North Gem will finish in third place and take seed 5-6C, Mackay will finish in fourth place and take seed 5-6D, and Rockland and Sho-Ban are eliminated.

4.    If Butte County beats North Gem, Rockland beats Clark-Watersprings, and Sho-Ban beats Mackay.

Butte County will finish in first place and take seed 5-6A, Clark-Watersprings will finish in second place and take seed 5-6B, North Gem will finish in third place and take seed 5-6C, and Rockland will finish in fourth place and take seed 5-6D, while Mackay and Sho-Ban are eliminated.

5.    If North Gem beats Butte County, Clark-Watersprings beats Rockland, and Mackay beats Sho-Ban.

There is a three-way tie for first place between Butte County, North Gem, and Clark-Watersprings. Mackay finishes in fourth place and takes seed 5-6D, and Rockland and Sho-Ban are eliminated.

The tiebreaker is a 3-way coin flip. A representative from each team flips a coin at the same time. If all three coins come up heads-or-tails, the coins are flipped again. If the coin flips yields 2 heads and a tails or 2 tails and a head, the odd-man out is awarded the top-seed. A coin is then flipped again to determine the remaining two seeds to the state tournament.

6.    If North Gem beats Butte County, Clark-Watersprings beats Rockland, and Sho-Ban beats Mackay.

There is a three-way tie for first place between Butte County, North Gem, and Clark-Watersprings. There is also a three-way tie for fourth place between Rockland, Mackay, and Sho-Ban.

The tiebreaker for first place is a 3-way coin flip. A representative from each team flips a coin at the same time. If all three coins come up heads-or-tails, the coins are flipped again. If the coin flips yields 2 heads and a tails or 2 tails and a head, the odd-man out is awarded the top-seed. A coin is then flipped again to determine the remaining two seeds to the state tournament.

8.    If North Gem beats Butte County, Rockland beats Clark-Watersprings, and Sho-Ban beats Mackay.

North Gem finishes in first place and takes seed 5-6A, Butte County finishes in second place and takes seed 5-6B, Clark-Watersprings finishes in third place and takes seed 5-6C, Rockland finishes in fourth place and takes seed 5-6D, and Mackay and Sho-Ban are eliminated.
