West Side

Last year the Pirates won a state championship that a lot of people had already, mentally, given to the Malad Dragons. Malad had beaten them before and there was no reason to believe it wasn’t going to happen again. That, as they say, is why they play the game. At the end of the night at Holt Arena, West Side defeated Malad 14-6.

The only hiccup in West Side’s 2011 schedule was a 16-13 loss to 3A American Falls. Other than that one loss, the Pirates have been unstoppable.

It’s # 1 vs # 2. Unfortunately, because of the current bracketing process, this is another case of seeing the state championship decided in the semi-final round.

Grangeville

I’m guessing the game strategy on the Grangeville sidelines is pretty simple. Score a lot of points and don’t let the other guys score very much. Simple, yet effective. This year, they have out-scored their opponents 453-82. Looking at their game scores, you have to wonder if they only played JV teams. Regardless of how or why, the Bulldogs are one win away from the 2A state championship game.

As far as the records go back that I was looking at, Grangeville has never won a state football title. 2011 might be the Year of the Rabbit on the Chinese calendar, but in Idaho it is the Year of the Bulldog.

Grangeville defeats West Side 45-35
